when my exhaust was installed on my 03 v6, the bumper stayed the same. they just put on longer hangers so it would hang just below the bumper.

It's really quite easy to do a good cutout. With the template in the link, it will probably be a little easier; I didnt have a template when I did mine.
I took some posterboard, made a template from the passenger side, then essentially flipped it over to mark the driver side. I lined it up and marked it so that the ends and.or markings were lined up to match against one of the bends in the bumper and then flush with the bumper toward the license plate, then used tape to secure it and then marked out the existing hole. Then cutout the pattern in the posterboard, check its cut and alignment ON THE PASSENGGER SIDE to make sure it is accurate, then transfer it over and mark the driver side.
Cutting out the hole is easiest if using a flexible saw, like a coping saw. Take your time, cut carefully: you can't undo your mistake! After cutting it out, take a file and gently cleanup the cut edges.
Not a great pic, but the after-results. I'll have a better pic this weekend.
