I dont believe 9's with a stock t-5 for more than maybe a couple passes.

to run 9's your talking 1.4 60's, i dont see stock internals holding up in a t-5, have you ever seen inside of one?

I can see how a tremec needs to be beefier to hold more power, the beefier material just aint there in a t-5.

btw, i went through two t-5's on a stock motor and e.t. streets, my current one is built a little better, but im trying to be easy on it, and im at about 285-300 rwhp now.

tanya im not trying to argue, I have seen shortly lived low 10 sec passes on supercharged cars, but that is really pushing it, even on a tremec tko.

As long as you treat it right a stock t-5 will do just fine. Most of the time when people bitch about breaking their "stock" t-5s they forget about the 10-15 years its been beaten on, powershifted, ground into gear by 1st time drivers, etc...then they replace it with another $300 junkyard t-5 and wonder why it breaks again.

You'd be suprised how many t-5 guts I have seen, and most of them were broken when someone overshifted and broke a fork, or had issues with 3rd gear, both are usually driver error.

I didn't feel like wasting too much time looking on the other forums, but ran across this on Turbomustangs:

No they aren't bulletproof, but if you buy a new tranny from Tremec/Ford, get a good shifter (pro5.0?) WITH STOPS adjusted correctly, and get a reasonable clutch (motorsport heavy duty should work just fine). You could also go with 3.73's instead 4.10s to keep your fuel economy and performance inline.

I am using a knockoff (professional products, I believe) of the Edelbrock Performer series intake manifold. My goal is to beat stock LS1 6-speeds on street tires.

340 still seems a bit high, and a t-5 will also help you to reach the 250-260rwhp with less parasitic drag. Keep in mind that "340hp" rating is without any accesories. I think the understood figure is about 15% loss for a t-5 and about 20+% for an AOD.

If you plan on driving it on the street, again the 5-speed is the winner. The beauty of a clutch is being able to take off wherever you want-no worries about spilling your coffee on the daily drive, but when you want that 4k launch RPM (or higher) its as easy as revving the engine and dropping the clutch.
