18" tire sizes

Hey guys my tires are still somewhat good, but my next pair of rears im wanting something a lil bigger. Im running Sumi's 285/35-18s in the rear on some 18x10 fr500s. Well my question is anybody runnin 40 series tires, any pics? Are they too fat. Im thinkin of 305-315/ 35-40- 18s. LMK ya'lls opinions Pics would def. help thanx alot guys.

all a 40 series tire would do is make your rear taller. the second number in the tire size is your side wall height. its a percentage of your overall tire with(ex.285) so your new side wall would be 40% of 285mm instead of 35%. i have heard that when you go to a 315 you have to roll the fender lip. so i would imagine a 315/40/18 might require a mini tub. could be completely wrong though.

You won't have to roll the fender lip with a 315 tire, it will fit without modifiction but may be too wide for a 10'' rim. 315s are pretty fat on a 10.5'' rim. Depending on the manufacturers specs 305 is usually about as wide as recomended.

i know this is an older thread, but what about front sizes on a 99-04 GT? i am looking at some real fr500's (18x9 all around), but the tires that come with them from 5.0resto are 265/35/18. are these appropriate or should i get the 275/XX/18??

it is not lowered yet, but i am planning on doing so. please respong with any input/pics ASAP as im planning on doing this this weekend. thanks

Go with 265/35/18. That's what I got on the fronts. This pic was last summer. The car now has KDW's but they're the same size as the ones in this pic.

i wasnt sure about rubbing for the larger size, or if the tires would be wide enough to cover the rim and not look like i was trying to be a cheap-o. Any pics from the rear?

Yeah I have the Roush Stage 2 suspension. Never had another type of suspension so I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference.
