1st bad taste

i have trusted in THR my car for the repair paid out at least 75% already. last week on monday i was told he would be able to have it ready for me by thursday of this week. the cool part about it is he uses a machine shop that are customers of my family's store. well after constant trying to figure out the status of my engine i finally get an answer that the block is still at the machine shop. well as luck would have it one of the guys came into our store today and told me they barely received the block today to get worked on. now im feeling that there needs some explaining to be done as to why i was told that the engine would be pulled and taken to the machine shop since last monday and it barely made it there today. talk about a fiasco. i had heard good and bad stories about thr and i gave them the benefit of the doubt and figured well every shop has their good and bad but now im thinking what excuse i will get for such a delay in getting my block to the machine shop bc i even paid to get the forged pistons overnighted to THR. i hope brian can pull thru on this as many guys in the local club and other mustang owners know what happened to my car and keep asking for updates on whats going on. id hate to have to tell them that brian couldnt come thru on what he said he would. so this is my 1st bad taste in the mouth about thr previous to this they seemed to have done pretty good by me. so only time will tell. stay tuned for an update on thursday

Good luck with that, I know they left me a bad taste a while back and all I did was order parts..... long story short, I did not get what I wanted and it took forever.

I am going to withhold judgment until I get my car back.

But I can say that it makes me uneasy when I read that other members are having some bad experiences with them when they've had my car at their shop for half a year now.

wow that's kinda scary I hope the pistons that are being put in are the ones I was told. id hate to be driving down the road and a piston messes up again and I get the "well it was eventually going to happen" statement. because that's what I got when it initially started klunking on their dyno while he was tuning it. I doubt he would screw over someone on this forum though. he's a businessman and if he is a good businessman he will keep his word even though its a lil on the edge with me right now with taking a week to get the motor pulled and to the machine shop.

Granted, it has taken a lot longer than I thought it would take on my car (over 7 months now). But as long as his work and craftsmanship are second to none like I have heard from several people... it will be well worth the wait.

A performance shop taking more time than they told you, hmmmm this does not sound unsual. Just make sure when you get your car back it's exactally what you wanted, i've had issuies with this before.

yes, this is also why I have been very patient with my car at THR. I realize that I am getting a lot of stuff done at one time, and half of which was custom fabbed (my complete stainless steel exhaust w/ longtubes).

It does seem to be common practice in the performance shop industry to take longer than promised.

When I was shopping around for a shop to build my car I didn't know anyone around here that I could use. I talked to a guy here in town, but i didn't really like the way he talked, kinda sounded like a idiot. Then I tried to get through to 2 other very popular shops and never even got through to talk to anyone. Also when I got my coupe I needed a tune and local shops were too busy once again for me and the one that wasn't ended up tuning it for me and finding a few "issues" that needed to be addressed which was all fine until the bill was like $500 bucks over what I was told over the phone..... So yeah before we get to bashing on THR we need to stop and think about why we needed to go to El Paso to get our shit done in the first place. I'm not putting anyone down, just giving an opinion. I'm sure that I could have gone locally had I been from here and knew more of my options at the time, but I went with THR and haven't seen my car for over a year, partly because Brian is just a busy mofo, but he also got behind due to losing some techs, then I let him put a few soldier's cars before mine so they could have them while they were here on leave. I know Brian is a busy man and he's slow with customer service, but he's a stand up guy and I'm pretty confident in his work. He's always kept me informed on what's going on, and has made it up to me for taking forever. I'll see the finished product, which should be in a week from what he told me the other day.

i agree, it has become comon practice for a performance shop to take a bit longer than expected on most projects, but that does not make them a bad shop.. hell, if anything, "waiting in line" at a shop should tell you something...

+1

I am not bashing THR by any means. I totally understand that when working on a car, anything and everything can go wrong and make the process take that much longer. I mean c'mon... we've all installed something on our car and followed a "How-to" that we found online. The "How-to" might state that the mod only takes 1 hour to install... but somehow it always takes way longer than that. lol

So when it comes down to it... Brian is giving me one hell of a deal on some top of the line products with what I expect to be top of the line craftsmanship. So if I have to wait and be patient, that's the least I can do. I would rather wait 7 months to get superb quality fit and finish, than have them rush to get it done in a week and have it just thrown together.

Sadly this is not always the case....take Jeff's 00 for example. The repair work he had done took and extra two weeks from what should have been a day or two job and the work was shit.

I believe Jeff said he was more than confident in Brian's work, as am I based on what Jeff has told me, and we are ok with the time it has taken/lack of communication because it will be worth it!! The most annoying thing has been people asking where the car is constantly and saying things like, oh I bet you are pissed...or you hope it is still there!! Don't you think we would tell you when we got it back....I think Jeff is going to take out a billboard to notify San Antonio he finally has a mustang again!!

i dont think repair work counts in what i was saying... i was refering to "blower install" or "forged bottom end" and stuff like that... if a repair shop takes forever, it's 'cause they can't figure it out, or other stuff is breaking in the mean time...(as much as it sucks, it happens all too often.)

Yes, I do wish... for Brian and THR's sake, that they would keep me better informed on the progress of the project and send me more pics and videos of the progress. I think that even though the project has taken a while, if I were provided with more pictures of the progress to post up... it would keep people's interest in the project and people would stop questioning where the car is or what is taking so long.

I have faith in Brian and THR. But it has gotten annoying having to answer to everybody when they ask "where is the car" or "what's taking them so long?". If I had more pics to post of the progress, I believe the questioning would stop.

Point of my post: Long time does not mean good work.

Thinking outside the box here: maybe the job was delegated by Brian for the engine work and that person dropped the ball....I know it is easy for employees to tell their boss one thing and do another. I do not think Brian personally would ever tell someone something other than what he was told....which he would assume is the truth. Just a thought!!

i worked on the service drive for almost 8 yrs here and trust me when i say that a technician will fill you full of bs if they are not close to being done and they think they are going to get into trouble because they are behind. for all anyone knows, Brian was told "don't worry boss, i'll have that engine out in one day." problem with that is they never told him which day. all he can relay back to you is, "my tech said he would have it out in a day." see where the confusion can set in. plus there is a saying in the service industry i was told when i first started here... if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit. still works to this day. patience is the key. if you rush them, no telling what they could screw up trying to work with your time frame. remember, never insult the chef's cooking before you get your meal.
