1st time out in my 03 cobra?

i recently picked up 03 cobra bout 2weeks ago and thought i should run it to c what it does.
it has 107k miles,k/n in the box, flowmaster catback, full weight, spare and everything on street tires.
now this is my 1st ford ever and 1st time racing a mustang.i have raced ls1s and thats it.I ran the car 4x on 7/21/2010
1.man these cars are small inside
2.clutch is much harder than ls1
    3.shifter is too far foward.
4.cobra seemed to never cool off

1st pass tried to let car cool down for 45 mins but it was no help.1st time ever racing a ford!it sucked.even left on tcs cause i forgot i had tcs, never had a traction control car before.il get better though.thought i could make to the end of the 1/4 in 3rd but nope it banged limiter so i coasted to the end

    60'--------2.498
    1/8-------9.22
    mph------82.21
    1/4-------13.87
mph------99.23 dooop hit rev limiter in 3rd let off

2nd pass.now i know i have to shift to 4th,hot lapped it cause i was upset.turned off tcs.not bad and gettin better,i had to reach for 3rd gear.

    2.37' [email protected]

3rd pass.tried to let car cool down but i guess it takes a hour and a half.lol.left tcs by accident, this time moved my seat more foward so i wont have to reach for 3rd.

    2.29 [email protected]

4th and final pass of the night.same method as above cept i remembered to dissable tcs.

    2.27' [email protected]

overall i was happy with the mph and it having 107k miles.just in the box filter and flowmaster catback, full weight.not bad i guess considering the weather and my 1st time racing a ford.im gonna go back after i drop some weight and add cai,x pipe.my 60' sucks bad.

what yall think gimme honest opinions.

Just keep going at it and get comfortable with the car...times will improve. A high 12 can be done.

At least you're going out an racing it!

    1. Does the car have a stock shifter? If so, get the MGW. Since the handle rotates 360 degrees, you'll be able to put it in a position that is best for you.

    2. What were you launching at? Start low, work your way up if that's what you want to do (useless on street tires though). If it hops, let out! Forget that TC exists. Mine has been disabled via my tune since '02 and I've never missed it.

    3. Don't hot lap it. Get a heat exchanger reservoir and a jumper wire and ice it down between passes. The HEATon doesn't like to be lapped.

    4. Bone stock, these cars were good for high 12's in good air with half way decent driver.

    cobra

good job,,,i remember my first time,,,14+

mine is stock in my eyes,,my best was 12.9 @114...had 170k at that time at 275 this weekend..was going to go to black/red nite but things didnt go as planned

13.1-13.4 is ok with street tires...

dont be fooled by traction control...i drove in the snow and found thats it works,,kinda like anti lock brakes,,,when wheels start to spin you leave your foot on gas and the rear will jerk the wheels to get car to move feels very wierd...on hard surface it just feels like car died cause your moving already

Hey Tracy remember those days? Lol It seems like a long time ago!

The best i got out of my Cobra stock was 12.8 @ 111 if i remember right and that was in decent air, not this summer blowtorch we have right now. With some Nittos DRs it dropped to 12.5s @ 113 consistently with a best of 12.3x @ 113.
Your times are ok for a first trip out and considering the heat, get some more practice and definetly dont skimp on the cool down, last thing you wanna do is hot lap it and hurt the motor.

    Congrats on the Termi

X2 on what John said...long time ago indeed,

Bring a cooler with 2-3 bags of ice in it and cool down the S/C...don't forget a towl to wipe up the water. You'll be surprized with the results, right now the best thing you can do is get a pair of Drag Radials - that will help with the 60ft...the rest is the driver. Nittos are ok and last longer on the street but MT are better at the track...imo.
