2 row 1" tube radiator vs. 3 row radiator

well i finished the exhaust and drove the stang and it gets hot. I should have figured so cause even the old motor (stock 289) got hot. I am looking to get a new radiator and have been looking at the ones on ebay. I have two choices. One is a two row aluminum with 1" tubes. the other is a 3 row aluminum with i guess standard sized tubes. Which one do you think would cool better. Btw I am also going to get a fan shroud and go with a clutch fan instead of my elec. fan. Or should i go with a Aluminum 4 row??

I just ran a 3 row brass and mine cooled just fine. That without a shroud too.

I picked up a heavy duty all brass 3row from Lone Star Radiator for my FOX and with a 180 stat no shroud and an elec fan i can not get the thing over 190-2200 deg. I would not go back to a clutch fan it robs power and isnt near as efficent as an electric.
What motor is in it now?
Are you sure the head gaskets are not installed backwards? It is real easy to do and it will block the rear passages and the car will run hot.
Also do you have the correct W/P for your app. A reverse rotation pump wont work on a v belt drive and vice versa. Tough part is there is no way to tell by appearances they look the same.

its a carbed 5.0 motor and has hci. Im 99 percent positive the headgaskets are fine. when i put them on i double checked. I do have the v belt but its a hi volume waterpump made for the vbelt as well. I just wanted to make sure come august i dont overheat. I talked to the one guy on ebay with the 3 row radiator and he said i should have no problem with the 3row. He has 100 percent positive feedback so i think i might go with his.

mishimoto has great radiators, they have a no questions asked warranty, you show then proof of your mishimoto leaking and they send you a warranty form. once you mail or fax it in they have one shipped out within 24-48hrs

Becarefull of getting too thick of a radiator, I have worked on Larry's old '66 a couple of times for the current owner, there is not much room between the radiator and the engine because of the thick radiator. So what electric fan do you have? If you don't have a fan that moves at least 2800 cfm you will need one, actualy getting a fan that moves over 3000 cfm helps. I prefer electric fans, I hate timing engines with engine driven fans, always afraid a blade will come off and they eat up a lot of power. The two row aluminum radiator should be fine.
The current combo is an '85 coupe with 302 bored and stroked to 364, Ported Twisted Wedge heads and a BXR intake, A9M ECM with a Moates chip, Doug Nash 5 spd, 4.56 gears, Hoosier 275/60/15 drag radials.
Daily driver '89 GT 302 stock block, crank, rods and pistons, ported GT-40P heads with stock valves, Ported Explorer intake, B302 cam, Z spec T5, 3.73 gears, Moates chip and no traction. Made 325 whp and 325 wtq.

yesterday i ordered a brass/copper 3 row 20" radiator for a 67 mustang. Its 3 inches wider than the 65-66. So hopefully that will help this summer. And i ordered a fan shroud. Another thing i was doing wrong was running without a thermostat.

Not having a thermostat is not good, the water flows to fast through the radiator and so very little heat is removed from the coolant. I run a restrictor in my car, just so I don't have to worry about the thermostat sticking and I have a restriction to slow the water in the cooling system.

#in wider means 1 1/2 inches on each side will be covered up by the radiator support and get no air flow unless you open up the hole.
    I would suggest a 180 t stat.
