Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for servicing, diagnosing, repairing, or maintaining a variety of vehicles, small, large, and heavy equipment. Exercises no supervision.
Essential Job Functions
Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment;
Inspects, diagnoses, and locates mechanical problems on vehicles, small, large, and heavy equipment;
Repairs automobiles, light and heavy trucks, gasoline engines, and other automotive equipment;
Installs and repairs batteries, lights, alternators, regulators, and starters.
Adjusts and repairs clutches and brakes and replaces shocks, struts, and springs.;
Operates engine test and equipment, air wrenches, and hand tools;
Performs repairs on electrical heating and cooling systems;
Tests drives automobiles, trucks and equipment;
Replaces broken or defective windows on cars and trucks;
Makes road calls to repair problems;
Utilizes proper safety precautions and procedures related to work performed;
Prepares vehicles for State inspection;
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job/Driving Requirements
Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate;
One year experience in automotive repair;
Substitution Ratio: Two years of related experience may be substituted for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience;
This position requires a Valid Class "B" CDL Texas Driver's License or obtain a valid Class "B" CDL Texas License within thirty (30) days after becoming a resident of the State of Texas;
ANY APPLICANT SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION MUST UNDERGO TESTING FOR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES BEFORE PERFORMING THE SAFETY-SENSITIVE FUNCTION. (REQUIRED BY DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION EFFECTIVE 1/1/95).
