Now that the bottom of the hood is marked, start drilling. Take it slow and increase the size of the bit until the desired size hole is made. It is also possible to use a hole saw, but being anal, I checked the progress of the hole with each bit by closing it on the pins and checking.
Once that is done, put more paint on the tips of the pins and mark the top size of the hood. You will have to drill the initial 1/8" hole from the bottom, but the rest you can do from the top. Make sure you use auto masking tape to prevent paint chipping. The bottom holes needed to be "massaged" a little and came out nice and round, but no pic.
I chose not to use a hole saw and went up from 1/8" to 1/2" drill bits. Once I hit that size, I decided to do the rest by hand. My bits, no matter what I did, chipped the paint more than I liked.
