he is trying a noble idea. you are wrong telling him what he must do to accomplish it. stop trying to be an 'expert' and help the guy do it. thatr's what performance shops do.

and 185 s flow in the 277 range. not 285.

165's 244 is comparable.
by telling him whats required i am helping him

AFR heads always out flow their advertised specs they are well known for that.

having first hand actual knowledge vs reading about it is the difference here

i have had a set of 205 heads they flowed 315 on kotzurs bench

I have had a set of 185's they flowed 285 on kotzurs bench

I have a set of 165s on a current car i own right now 252 on kotzurs bench

Where did you get the 235 cfm stock because acording to mm@ff they got 205 cfm when they flowed a stock 3 valve head and kotzur got 220 cfm from mine when he flowed them prior to porting < 298 cfm after >

but flow benches are not race tracks and every one is different regardles.

My point was you keep qouting wrong info so how much of the other info you are qouteing can be considered reliable since you are just qouting it and not actually stating anything from your own knowledge.

Thats a very dangerous thing to do trust me over half of what you read on message boards as "tech" is wrong.

i think i know something about swapping a 5.4 3v into a sn-95. seeing how i have been driving it for over two years.

another fellow i talked through the 5.4 3v swap has been driving his for around 6 months. he can't afford a custom tune yet so he is dealing with the same super-rich condition i had at first. i actually had my step-son tell me he saw flames out of my tailpipes. this isn't 5.4 2v. there are marked differences in the burn rates, and VE's these things have. a moderately built 5.4 2v = 270rwhp/330rwtq. you motor in a manual transmission will exceed that stock. say 260/350.

my dyno was with stock mufflers, x-pipe, modified C&L maf, and cmc deletes. 250rwhp @ 4250 and 340 rwtq @ 3650. i never made less than 310 rwtq until after 4300. at 3000 rpm it made 330 rwtq.

those numbers are SAE.

that is with an automatic tranny. add some percentage for a manual tranny.

add more for better exhaust.

did y'all know our engines are off-centered towards the passenger side? i don't get how that happens, but it's off by a inch or two.

that being said, i decided not to get another hood, but try to work some fiberglass magic and basically make it look like a shaker. note that the air filter box is on top and the air inlet is facing forwards, so i'm going to run with it and see if i can make it work. it probably won't have a true 'ram air' though it will look like it because i will need to keep rain and trash from getting in there. as it stands, the air filter would get soaked in the rain. maybe a screen, along with a downward bend with an irrigation route, and the back up and into a 'scoop'?

anyone have ideas? without the motor in the car i can't know /exactly/ where to cut, so i may postpone painting the hood.

conclusion: this thing is going to look sick! and it's mostly be chance.

exhaust will be 2.5" throughout. this will flow enough for the power level. magnaflow catback on, working on a midpipe...

surprising news.

this swap is 50 state legal. it doesn't apply to anyone here but myself, but california rules are as follows:

1) if engine must be same year or newer
2) must retain all emission components and work (still has to be smog checked)
3) if the engine type was never an option for the vehicle, it has to be the same size or larger.

i talked at-length with a 'smog referree' and he said i shouldn't have any trouble getting OK'd so long as my cats still work, and all of that obvious stuff.

The engine is offset to make space for all the steering components.
Thought you would know that.

i am making this more complicated on myself now... i have an 03 cobra blower, inlet, tb to throw into the equation, though i may forego installing it before i get the 5.4 running. oh, and the 5.4 is getting checked out at a shop next weekend it is looking like. i miss my truck and the bed it offered!
