351 Cleveland CobraJet

Hello Everyone I have a question about the worth of a 351 Cleveland CobraJet engine. What are they worth? I hadnt herd of one of these till yesterday. I thought there was only a 427 cj. Anyways has anyone in this forum ever owned one?Ive read they are pretty rare only came out from 1972-73 I bought it and I will be picking it up in a couple of weeks but to tell you the truth it will probably sit in my wharehouse for a couple of years before I can get to it. Is it worth Keeping? I might consider selling. the guy also threw in the tranny which he says is from a late model police interceptor C6 i believe Let me know what you guys think. I forgot to tell you that the reason I ran into this 351 was cus my brother was buying a 65 mustang Gt from this guy for 2500 buck in very good condition the guy said He just didnt have it in him anymore to mess with old cars.

They are a 351 Cleveland 4V rated at 280 HP in 1971 and 266 HP in 72 and 73. There are a torquey motor and are getting harder to find now days. You may want to check the part #'s on the block to make sure its from the correct era and it was a 4V motor. The heads are different on the 2V and 4V Clevelands.

Moving to classic tech....

351C CobraJet

I made sure and it is definetly a 4V. just spoke with him again and he says they were used in the Mach 1s and Panteras I also read that the Torinos also used this engine But I still cant get a clear picture of what the value might be. He says he got in 85 and it had 20,000 and that he put 20 more on it.

If it's a 4 bolt main it's even more rare. Dollar wise they are worth alot to collectors. From a power standpoint you can use a more modern block and heads and make more power though.

The 4 bolt blocks were on the HO Clevelands. There were a few that made it in the CJ's.

killa convo

..the 351 cobrajet blocks were fitted into the above mentioned models alright !! .. but the thickness between the walls of the bores are thinner than the clevelands..!!
With the 351 cj 4 bolt mains ,when your foot is trommped close to the floor .. the engine produces the most beautifulest sound ever to come out of an exhaust pipe of any engine block ever made !!!!! but alas they are not a strong block.
the block strength only ly`s in the capacity to hold in that 4mab crankshaft ..
unlike the 4v 2 bolt cleveland..with 4ma crankshaft.
anyways,,most of the 351 cj blocks i have seen here in Australia when i do find them. are cracked !!..& it aint from the block lying out in the sun .

after saying that

id prefer the US Made 351 4 bolt mains anyday .. than the thicker casting aussie clevo block & heads!! ..but i might have to steel sleeve it and unfortunately lose that sweet sound of a real 351 engine !! but then again it will be invincible !! .... cheers from Australia ,, johnny

Didnt the Australian Falcons get the Cleveland engines from an Australlian engine foundry or did they infact come from the US?

My dad has one in a '57 Ford Ranchwagon

I'll just say that with that motor and the C6 auto, I've beat a Trans Am on Loop 250 from a 65 roll and embarrased him in a heavy station wagon.

My dad's has a mild cam and edelbrock 4bbl intake with ceramic coated headers and x pipe.
