4 Cyln. Springs on the Street

I was contimplating wether or not running 4 cylinder front springs on my car to achieve lowering it until I can afford some aftermarket springs. I do like to take corners kinda fast. When I took all of the A/C and smog equipment off the car the front came way the hell up and looks 4x4 now. Or should I just cut the stock springs and run it that way? One way or the other I need to lower the front and I just don't know what would be better for the street.

I've heard of people heating up the front springs and cutting the rears.

The rear sits good, about where I want it. I have heard heating up springs weakens them and makes for a spongey ride. I've been searching everywhere and it seems cutting the stock front springs is the best. But I would like to hear from someone that has done it. I may go to Pick and Pull and see if they have a set of V8 springs incase I mess mine up.

werd. it ruins the temper of the metal. also isn't the most accurate way to get both sides the same ride height

I know when you cut them you are supposed to use a cut off wheel or something that dosent create too much heat. Never a cutting torch.

How does it work out for you in the corners? Does it have much nose dive? I assume you are still running your front sway bar.

I doesnt do too much nose dive, not as much as i thought it would, corners are okay but I wouldnt take it autocrossing. I would defantly replace the struts in front if you havnt already, it will make a bit of a difference.

You mean the 4 cylinder springs were cut? How much does the stock 4 cyl spring lower you car and/or how much do you have to cut to get it to look good?

It might lower your car about a half inch it depends on how much stuff you have on the front end of the car. I usually start with 1 coil and put it back together just to size how much more to cut off. Ive taken as much as 2.5 coils. The height of your car will depend on the rim size.

I have taken all the ac and smog off the front so it sits way up. I have 16" ponies and 26" tall tires. I measured like 4" between the fender and the tire. How hard is it to get the 4 cylinder springs in there? Iv'e heard it 's a bitch to get V8 springs back in but it's easy to get lowering springs in.

Getting 4 cyl springs in is easier than 8s, if you have some 8s and you dont care about them cut about 1.5 coils off put them in the car and see if you like it. I would play with them to get the height you want but you might want to remember 8s are alot stiffer so if you cut 1.5 coils on 8s you mught want to cut 1 on 4s and so and so. once the 8s are cut putting them back is alot easier than stock ones

if you dont want any down time, or have anything to cut springs with...

i have some '00 V6 front springs, they have about 3/8's of a coil cut, but i can cut as much as you want from them and sell them to you for $25.
