The problem it not displacement, it's the stroke and bore that kill these engines, even the 2 and 4V engines. Mine only makes about 330 to the ground and that is with every bolt on made for the 2V. I even have 11.6:1 c/r and that still ain't enough to break 350 to the ground. At the crank it may make 360-365 ish on my set up.
Question about your setup:
Why stage 2 vt cams if you're looking for more power?
What do your ported heads flow at?

Can't make that kind of power with just one cam on these cars. Sorry.

I'd build up the bottom end, p&p your heads, some stage 2 blower cams, and a Whipple.
(..and the supporting mods, of course.)

I went with the VT cams for the ICL of them. I'll have to dig up my flow sheet for them specs

Nope.. not even with the best possible combos and ideal weather conditions.

However, Len mentioned one time at Murillo's that they did a PI swap on a 98 and it made 379 to the ground.. how much that story holds water... I'll hold my breath.

for the 3 valve your looking around 360 to 370 max rwhp na

if you want 400 you would need to do the 331 cube big bore boss block from ford around 11-1 or higher compresion and fully ported heads with large cams and large full length headers and 3 inch exhaust
you can break 400 rwhp like that on pump gas but just and its going to cost more then a blower wich will put you well over 400 rwhp on a stone stock 05 up

401 at the wheels or at the fly? Fly is doable

either way, to get what you want out of n/a you will need Livernoise heads, cams, LTs, Tune, and other misc boltons. This will get you over 350 at the wheels, how far depends on alot of factors.

If you do an electric water pump (is there one yet?) and every bolton, you wouldnt be THAT far off. With a good 4.30 gear, you will see lower dyno numbers after the install but your car will scoot

expect to gradually approach what a blower costs with all the mods and installs.

So then you must look at how you want to mod. Leave it completely stock and just slap a blower on it and make 400 through the stock stuff. dont start piecing together boltons if the blower becomes your ultimate goal.

how much is a kb setup?

Heads and cam will set you back 2500-3k after the install. Then you will need all of your supporting mods to make it work. use The BEST LTs and matching parts, so budget for that.

Talk to Al Pappito @ Boss330 Racing in Florida. He MIGHT be able to get some where near 401 n/a.

Not that it means anything but i've seen a few dyno sheets of 3v's n/a with heads cams boltons at ~390rwhp. I think its possible to break 400 n/a. Just gonna need some compression, heads, cams, full boltons...the usual.
