You might have it mixed up. An H pipe is the only midpipe that would make sense if you get rid of the Y. A v6 engine is even firing so therefore putting a X pipe is pointless since an H pipe does not have a cross over it is the correct way to go. 2.5" defiantly isn't ideal, 2.25 is ideal. 2.5" is suggested for boosted applications.
Any mid pipe on our cars are pointless for the most part, its more of a sound thing than anything.
