I used to have a car that did that .... I cannot remember which car, but I did (at one time) have a '66 Mustang, so it could have been that one.
It's been years, but if I remember correctly, I never did figure it out....

Does it have anything to do with the current load/use of power? Is it slower when you have the headlights on?
