well i asked this a long time ago, answer i basically got was this...they both do the same thing in the long run-pass gas. both suck for back pressure but the X's sound better overall given a good quality pipe. you do need to get MIL's either way or the computer will get all pissy

welding it in would not sound nor be good for the car from what i understand especially if the size of the pipe does not match up...

if your under warranty also having a purchased midpipe would be good cuz you can take it off before taking the car in for service...having it welded too could leave room for problems down the road for resale, holes in the exhaust etc...
