5.0 stang shuts off when running at idle.
THE SKINNY!!!! I know what your thinking and no its not the iac. The coil is good aswell as the pick up in the distributer. the module has been tested and its good. the only thing i can say is when i switched to the 3g alternator it started this. im comfused. The car runs for a while at idle than the idle dies than the car. when i try to start it back up it doesent start right away. i have to wait about 5 mins to cool down than she starts again and a repeat with the cut off. |

sounds like something in the alternator, even new alternators can be bad. take it up to oreilly and have them test the alternator with it on the car, that way they can check the voltage and see what its doing while the car is running. i work at the one on pat booker in universal city. i wouldnt mind checking it out for you, but i have off till sunday afternoon.

Just to rule out ignition, check to make sure it has spark, but I don't think the ignition is the problem if it only dies at idle. It would also be a good idea to check battery voltage while the car is idling, low battery voltage can cause some strange problems. It sounds like the car is possibly running too rich at idle. I am assuming this is a MAF car, what engine mods does it have?

how long is a while? when i switched throttle bodies on my friends car it ran fine. till i unplugged the battery a week later for something else we were doing. then it would surge and die out at stop lights sometimes. i believe this started when i reset the ECU. i went back and found the throttle plate was stightly open this whole time and the car was off time a bit too. set both of these and no shut off since. it would surge a bit for the 1st day but its solid now. guess the computer had to relearn everything. hope you get it fixed
