65 Fastback, show winner FS/FT
1965 Fastback 2+2
This 65 Fastback is an older restoration. It was restored in 1994. It has originally equipped air conditioning, front disk brakes, and power steering. The air conditioning was converted to R134A at the time of restoration. The mustang has 37,800 original miles. The car was originally purchased in 1965 by a 60+ year old newly wed couple. Being as the owner was a doctor, they also had an Avanti and a Mercedes Benz, which left the mustang rarely driven and outside. The stang was used for cruising around the lake. And by 1981 only had 21,000 miles on it. The resotration took from 1987-1994. This car has full documentation and loads of receipts. Restoration cost was about $35,000 according to receipts. This car is a multi-show winner. Its best winning was second place in the 1996 Houston Auto Rama in the 1964-1973 restored mustang class. This car has been a daily driver since 1999, and now has 37,8xx miles on it. Recent repairs were a new 4 row radiator, lower radiator hose, thermostat, 6 blade fan, all new power steering hoses, rebuilt power steering control valve, idler arm, rebuilt center link ball stud, and oil pan. The car is Caspian Blue. I will be honest, and say this car needs no more than $3,000 to be perfect and a super show winner. As far as originality, the car is 100% original EXCEPT for the exhaust, which a previous owner converted from single to dual. The current carburator is a 4 barrel holley, but no worries, the original autolite carb sits in the trunk. The original spark plug wires are in the trunk also, but are worn beyond use, which is why those ugly bright yellow ones appear in the photos. The motor and transmission are original to the car also. And because of the low miles, when the engine was rebuilt it didnt even have to be bored. Finding a classic car with an engine that isnt bored out is VERY hard, because of wear on the motor rebuilds usually require boring to remove cylinder bank scars. I have a 1991 dyno sheet showing 144.1 RWHP using the original carb and single exhaust. The motor is a A code 289 4 barrel producing 225 hp at the crank. This car draws lots of looks, thumbs up, slamming on brakes, and veering into other lanes by on lookers. This car is nearly rust free. Overall there is a very TINY amount of rust. When the back window seal was replaced aparrantly the paint was scratched. I had a bid to repair and match the paint for this for $500, proving it is very minor. There is also another $400 of rust on the bottom of the left rear quarter panel infront of the wheel. The floor pans, cowel, and bottoms of doors, which are the most expensive and common places for rust, are PERFECT on this car. There are two slight scratches on the back, and one below the glove box, and one pen point size dent on the drivers side door. It even has the original AM radio which is currently not hooked up. This car is very reliable for a daily driver, and if your looking into it as a show car, is perfect for the person who doesnt wanna spend years and 35 grand to build their own. What it needs as far as originality is original plug wires, original Ford 6 blade fan, and fan shroud, and interior carpet (its in good condition just sun faded). Thats it, or than paint/body repair! The air conditioning cools wonderful for an old setup. You will notice the difference because of the fact that 65 mustangs had the under dash kit, which has 4 small vents and a slightly less powerful blower motor. I recently had it appraised for insurance purposes at $19,800. Everything rated a #2. It has the original rally wheels. The motor is painted correct black, valve covers and air cleaner are correct gold. It has all the correct stickers in the proper places, even down to the R12 freon fill lbs tag mounted to the air conditioner compressor. This car is perfect for the person who grew up with these cars, or if a 65 mustang fastback was the first car they ever drove, and they want one to show. I must sell because I cannot afford it if I go to college, and I dont want to wait till the last second to try and sell. This is my daily driver and is reliable. Ive put over 2000 miles on it in the past 4+ months. Im asking $17,500. (Trades considered) This car you can put money in and it will always be worth more than you have in it. It needs about $2900 in work to be perfect aside from tooth-brush cleaning and spit shining, and at that point would be worth about 25 grand. (note: pictures are before any of the work had been done, so you wont see a new radiator with a new radiator cap for example.) contact me by email: jasonjr@mock-family.com Vin #: 5F09A394864 MCA (Mustang Club of America) Member #: 55961 Images: 65stang1 65stang2 65stang3 65stang4 65stang5 65stang6 65stang7 65stang8 65stang9 65stang10
