It sounds like you have probably not painted much (or you would know the "big brands)
Dupont, Sherwin Willians and PPG distributors all sell good stuff. Im a Dupont guy myself. I Like Standox (made by Dupont) for the base coat. There are alot of good clears available. I wouldnt get any clear because the price was good. Get something that is over $100 a gallon just for the clear. The brand of clear doesnt need to be the same brand of base coat either.
Another thing. If you havent painted much, you are about to paint the car one of the more problematic colors for a newb. If you dont have a good gun, you should not try painting it yourself with a cheapo. It will be hard enough for a newb with a good gun and good quality materials. Throw in a budget and its a recipe for a redo.
Remember this...You get what you pay for, and with paintwork, it usually shows in the end

I'm not the one painting. I'm only taking off the bumpers/trim and some minor preping. I am using a good painter and wanted to make sure he picks a good type of paint. Sounds like $100 per gallon is what I should expect. THANKS FOR THE INFO

The actual base coat is going to cost alot more than 100 a gallon. Probably about $75 a quart. It should only take 3 quarts of good base. But if hes going to use one of the brands I mentioned, those are good products. There are some others too like Glasurit but its not too common. Bottom line is, if he uses crap, it will look like it. Then you tell him to do it again. Hopefully he learned a long time ago like me, that trying to use cheap stuff ends up costing money or time (or both)

Fathom the odd hypocrisy that Obama wants every citizen to prove they are insured, but people don't have to prove they are citizens.

If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you weren’t a racist, you’d better vote for someone else in 2012 to prove you’re not an idiot.

The Navy SEALS removed one Muslim threat to America ...
It's up to the voters to remove the other!
