70's coupe

Hello, i'm new to these forums, and just looking to know a little more about mustangs.

I've found a 70's mustang coupe being sold for 6,500$ (U.S.). It's been restored, has a new engine (3000 miles on it) with new pistons, piston rings, camshaft, lifters, oil pump, seals, and gaskets. it's a 302 V-8 with a 4 barrel carbourator, and has no rust (thank goodness) as far as i can tell. it's also go a new paint-job (yellow with black racing stripes). It's an automatic. I'm not very familiar with the 65-70's mustangs, though, so i don't know what problems they're prone to, or weather or not 6,500$ is a good deal on this car.

The 69-70 mustang coupe was not a very popular car making it hard to find certain parts. The 69-70 fastback is the exact opposite making it probably the most desirable body style mustang ever.I would look it over very close and if you aren't familiar then get a second party appraisal before purchasing.Good luck.

Take a magnet and run it along the quarters and such when you go test drive it..........this will help you find bondo spots.......

Look at the undercarriage for rusted floor pans, torque boxes etc!!! Along with the a post or two before me the coupe versions of this year are not a very high demand model!! This car needs to be extra clean and original to be worth the asking price!!! I buy the old ones all the time!!! I have a 68 GT fastback, 69 GT fastback, 67,68 coupes and a 69 Cougar!!! All have had the same trouble spots some worse than others!!!!!! Floor pans, framerail damage, rusted fender aprons, bondo galore and so on!!!! Best thing to do is take someon that knows a little about these things!!! I got burned once and learned my lesson the hard way!!!!! Be careful some people want them gone for a reason other than money!!!!

craigslist... never been there before, but it sounds like a pretty reliable source!

thanks for all this info... how exactly does the magnet trick work?

Those were the certain pieces I was refering to. I had a '69 coupe and for certain pieces they were next to impossible to find.

1970 Mustang Hardtop for Sale
Here is the car I was telling you about......oh and the magnet thing works by running it over the panels of the car and if there is a place where the magnet doesn't stick there is bondo there.........You will need a good magnet though.....

There is a tool that has a gauge, uses the magnet, to show how thick the paint - bondo is. Alot of restoration catalogs list them

IF u use a magnet besure you put a towel under it so as not to scratch the paint on someone elses car.

Buying old cars is a crap shoot. Drive it ck it over good , get somone who knows the car you want to look at it. etc. But in the endit comes down to do U feel like the car is a decent buy at the price and are you satisifed its what you want and if so go for it.
