Its not going to bolt right in because it uses a 4 link setup instead of leaf springs . You can make it fit by welding on spring perches though and its not too hard to do .

why though? i was told that unless you're putting serious power, 8 inch is plenty.. and if that were the case, just go 9 inch

There's nothing wrong with installing an 8.8 in the car . They are cheap , plenty of used gears out on the market to choose from and most of them come with posi tracts unlike the 9" or 8" did . I'd say go for it if you can find one from a SN95 car and use the disc brakes on the rear .

Ranger/Explorer(up to 02) 8.8s are leaf spring, weld new leaf spring pads on.
Check backing plate to backing plate measurement.

The car is coming with a 9" rear(not installed as a extra) , but only has the axles , no pig. I not going to get to crazy with this car , I have already had cars that are 500rwhp , and I do not think that is the way I will be going with this car , I will be putting the 9'' up for sale soon and then start to look for 8.8 ,,, I want to add disc brakes to the car and for sure the front but it seems that there not a easy CHEAP way of doing the swap ...... if there is please point me in the right direction ...

thanks

For the disc brakes, it is the Granada....check out this site for more info, they actually sell the stuff...but you can grab most of it from a junk yard....

Home and click on "how to"

There are all kinds of classic Stang/Granda brake swap sites out there.....
