87-93 Mustang Dash Pad Replacement

87-93 Mustang Dash Pad Replacement
Author: bighoss88lx

If you own a 87-93 FOX Mustang your dash pad has probably cracked or it will eventually and become a big eyesore in the interior of your car. There not difficult to install and it can be accomplished in roughly an two hours. You can obtain a new dash pad from the aftermarket or you may get lucky and find a good used one for sale that has a few years left on it. Follow along as I replace mine in my 88 LX.

Tools needed:
Flathead screwdriver
3/8” wrench as short as possible or 3/8” stubby ratchet wrench
¼” ratchet with short extention and 3/8” socket

1. First you will begin with removing the center HVAC vents. Just pry out on the ends carefully not to break the plastic clips that hold them in place.

2. Remove the vent bezel. There are 8 keepers that hold them securely to the dash. You have to work the bezel out as you pry each keeper up. Mine all broke when I pryed up on them due to the brittleness of the old plastic.

3. There are 3 nuts that thread onto studs that secure the pad onto the dask. The first one is just to the left of the vent opening in the dash. Use the 3/8” wrench to remove it. Work patiently as it is difficult to get to.

4. The second nut is about 7” to the right of the vent hole in the dash pad. It is the most difficult to get to. To make it easier drop the glove compartment by pushing in on the rear corners of the box with it open to swing the glove box all the way down. Now you can use one hand up behind the glove box to guide the wrench with the other hand trough the vent hole.

5. The third and last nut is to the left of the far right vent and above the glove box. You must lower the glove box in order to gain access to the nut. Use the ¼” ratchet with a 3/8” socket to get to this one due to dash pieces in the way. Once it is removed you can now remove the dash pad and replace it with your new one.

Here is what it looks like with the new one.
