88 Taillight Lens Install

I got me a set of new tail lights from Texas Mustang Parts and they come with some sort of black sticky goo on a roll and I was wondering is that worth using to put the tail lights on the old housing? Has anyone used that or went and bought something else? Also it came with some little clips, what are they for? Thanks for the help.

I was doing some reading on other forums and they said just to use that goo on a roll and the clips and you will be ok. Did you get the same stuff EwP2003?

Pry them off very carefully with a scraper, flathead screwdriver, or a chisel from what I heard. Then someone said something about using some kind of chemical to get the old adhesive off. I was just going to use a wire wheel on the drill and see how that works. Let me know when you do yours or i'll let you know when I do mine, which is hopefully soon and Ill let you know how it went. Or hey, help me put some front springs in and ill do the taillights for you.

It's a piece of cake to do.Just use a screwdriver to get the old ones to break loose by gently going around the edges.Clean all the old black goo of the housing.Install the new black goo around the lens and install lens.

Do the metal clips go on after you glue the housing on? Will I see the originals when I take the old lenses off?

man ive done this twice. What u do is use the flat head scraper method to get the old adhesive off but when i had mine put on, the body guy said dont mess with the adhesive stuff so he just used some glue kind of substance and glued them in. No problems with them here!:jeff:

Update

I got them installed today and it was pretty easy except for digging out all of the old goop. Looks 100% better now.:jeff:
