Unless you have some high compression, stock units will do just fine, anything above stock with no compression is a waste of money.
Ford actually had it right with ignition after the 5.0 died.

+1
companies will peddle COPS like they give you an assload of power... the fact of the matter is if your not pushing some substantial power, or like chody said high compression.. your wasting your 500 bucks.

+2... Yups... I was gonna buy MSD's but I took Jody's word on it since he's "mod man" and skipped it. I installed the MSD 6AL ignition box on my 84' chevy truck a few years ago and didn't notice a significant difference at all, so this is further reason I chose not to do it. Not saying MSD is bad, just probably not worth it unless it's built or custom.

That's cuz that engine knew if it didn't work right, after put all that time and money into it, you would kick it to the curb and get a new engine.

You can get a set of MSD's for like $370-400 a set. The motorcrafts are like $45-50/each. GMS are like $300 a set. Accel makes some too, can't remember how much they are. Just go with whatever fits your budget.

When I had to replace mine, I went with the Summit brand ones. Cheaper than OEM, at 34.95 a piece. Haven't had any problems with them so far.

I have heard GMS is not worth the price, they have had issues with quality control. But they may have gotten better by now.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy GMS with all the stuff I've heard about them, just listing options. Jegs also sells their own brand for close to the same price as summit.

There have been many tests run by different people on Modular Depot, there are quite a few people with gobs of power that still use the stock cops. There's really no reason to use any of the aftermarket ones. They're just another pretty part with empty promises.

Got any links handy? Not arguing for proof, but wouldn't mind seeing it myself.

From: http://www.svt4u2try.com/Mystuff/Mus...d_ignition.htm

"Many many many many cars with over 1000 HP have used the stock coilpacks with no problems what-so-ever. The stock Motorcraft coilpacks made Dave King the fastest supercharged 4.6L in the world. There is no reason to use anything other than stock. If you must use an aftermarket coilpack due to prices (MSD costs less than the stock coilpack from Ford), MSD is the only one I would consider."

Accel's are about $35 through Jeg's, alot cheaper than the Motorcraft's right now.

A lot of Lightnings running 16+# boost are getting along fine with the stock CP's - if your's are still good, stick with what works.

Go over to Modular Depot and search "cops". Then just read through some of the threads. Granatelli comes into most of them defending his stuff but IMO Granatelli still makes crap for the most part.

The only piece I have ever though of buying for the cops were the new rope connectors and better plug boots they sell ( PIC BELOW ). I think the OEM wire that goes from the coil to the plug inside the boot is pretty crappy.

I haven't had to mess with mine as of yet. Had a cylinder 3 misfire a while back, but Jody took care of that for me. Are these you posted just a better conductor? Isn't the factory conductor just a spring??

What's anybody know about these? Have these been tested against the others??
