A/C Help.

AC on the wifes 98 3.8 went out. the compressor has been replaced, but still no worky. When i jump the low pressure switch back by the firewall, the fan kicks on, but still no compressor clutch engagement, same thing when i jump the connector on the actual compressor. Anyone have any ideas? No leaks or anything, coolant levels are right where they're supposed to be. All fuses are good.

Sounds like the compressor clutch is bad. If it doesnt engage when energized yopu need to replace the clutch. Nothing more than an electro magnet.

what are the odds though of the clutch being bad on two different compressors

This is a reply I typed up on another AC thread...Im lazy.
Go by this and you should figure it out.

Check the compressor clutch manually with the engine off. Make sure is turns with no hard spots and it should have some resistance. Then check to see if the system has any pressure by pressing the low side valve in. You should know if it has sufficient pressure, unless you have a guage set. If that is ok then check for power at the compressor plug. If not check fuses and relays for A/C system. If you have power where you should and the compressor still does not engage you need to find the high side switch and unplug it. With the car running and A/C on jump the two pins with a jumper wire and see if the compressor engages. If not, its a bad high side switch. Also your compressor coil can go out causing the clutch not to engage. Also if you determine its low on freon you can re-charge it by yourself with one of the kits from the parts store.

yeah i think it's somewhere in the electrical side of it, maybe a relay or something. will any problems like that show on an OBD scan?

Nope. If you know you have a sufficient amount of refrigerant in the system and the high side switch is OK, you have a wiring, fuse, relay, or AC control head problem.
