Any electricians in the house?

I lost all of my exterior outlets back when we had all that rain. I have checked the breaker and it is not tripped. One outlet in the back is set up with a GFI button. That GFI will not reset.

Here is the deal, I am not an electrician and do not want to deal with electricity. I can't get any Christmas lights put up without the outside outlets. I was just going to say forget it, but evidently putting up christmas lights with dad is pretty important to my daughter.

Let me know if someone can help me out. It may be a simple fix. ( I dont know) oh yea, and I am in Canyon Lake.

im no electrican, but if worse comes to worse, buy an extension cord and run it to a different outlet.

Chances are that you need to replace the ground fault outlet. Same thing happened to me. Not that hard to replace. Just shut off the breaker prior to replacing it. Can be bought at any hardware store or Home Depot or Lowes. If I remember it costs about 6 or 7 dollars.

Did you push the button real hard and hold it in for a few seconds??

I have one that when it has to be reset I have to also unplug anything that is on the same circuit that the GFI protects. Otherwise it will reset and then immediately trip again.

i had that happen a few times. check all of the GFI outlets in the house, starting around the ones that don't work. one of them probably tripped and needs the manual reset.

that was frustrating the first time it happened, then the second and third time i had to take a step back, then remembered the issue.

Well if they are all outside outlets then you might have got water in one or more of them. The GFI tripping lets you know it is working and protecting you from a fire. If the GFI does not reset then you still have a problem with the GFI or one of the other outlets. Open them up and check for black on them or the wires and change it out then try resetting the GFI. Remember to turn the breaker off before doing any work. If it helps any I was an apprentice for Bexar Electric about 4 years ago. Good luck.

thanks for all of the suggestions. I guess i will try replacing that one gfi plug and see what happens. There is only 1 on that breaker for outside outlets.

I also thought of running an extension cord, but dont really want to do that.

is this on a mobile home?
I mean a "Manufactured Home" Did the outlet ever work or is this the first time you are trying to use it.
I have seen some homes that are wired wrong, and the outlet never worked. Factory rep had to come out and an electrician had to rewire it.

no it is a two story pier and beam.
The outlets did work up until about 6 mo. ago.
