anyone ever had their car wet sanded?

I have done a few of my own cars to get rid of dead paint and start over with fresh paint to wax. You just have to be careful not to get carried away. It also can take some time. I have used a claybar with similar results.

i've done it and seen it done lots of times...works great when done right....

im scared to even attempt it on my stang since Ford puts the thinnest, crappiest paint on their cars

anyone know of a good place to have it done at? at least if someone else cuts through the thin layer of clear coat, they'll have to fix it.

Actually, no they don't. Ford's paint process is actually one of the better processes in the automotive industry.

+1 on that. Im surprised at how well my paint job is compared to my wifes car. The ford takes a beating and still looks great. The wifes car on the other hand just does not look good no matter what I try.

try wetsanding with 2000 grit first.. it's best to go one direction.. if you can't get out the problems try a rougher grit... but do not go below 800-1000 unless you plan on re-clearing :-D.. I wouldn't go below 1000.. fyi..

+1. Go the direction the paint was most likely sprayed in. For example, the doors will be sprayed in a front-to-back manner, while the roof and hood may be sprayed side-to-side. I haven't seen Ford's process personally, but I can't imagine it being too different.
