    Gears. Thats your best bang for the buck mod.
    03 GT - CAI, Plenum, TB, Pullies, O/R H, Catback, 4.10's, Sniper Tuned...still slow.

    Uhh, the last response is typical of most mustang owners. But, here's some data.

    2007 V6 - 0-60 - 6.5 seconds, 1/4mile - 15.3 (Car & Driver April 2007)

    2004 V8 - 0-60 - 6.3 seconds, 1/4mile - 14.3(Car & Driver March 2004)

    The S197 V6 is pretty stout, and comparable to the last generation 2V V8 in performance. Just ask Jeff.

    I would do gears, GT take-off exhaust, tuner...Then some kind of forced induction. A 4.0 Stroker, twin turbo setup would be sweet.

    Thanks Ed, I just wish I knew her!

    As for the 05+ V6, i'll vouch that it can hang. I had a rental one while my 03 was in the body shop and I was actually impressed, almost disheartened that it was just as peppy as my V8. I took it back with bald tires

    I recommend a Procharger P1SC, Longtube headers, X-pipe and 3.73 gears. But I'm pretty biased.

    I test drove two - one stick Six and one stick Eight ... and there is very little difference in the feel of them.

    So you 8 Cylinder Guy - quit raggin' on him. He asked a legit question!!

    why not save up your money, pay off the car and then do a V8 swap instead of wasting money into a limited platform? The v6 was for the economical and gas mileage crowd, not the performance guys.

    Modifying a v6 is like watching somebody buy a Honda and modifying it. It was meant for gas mileage, it takes stupid amounts of money to make fast, and at the end of the day when you finally crack into the 11 second zone or better, the car is no longer reliable.
    2001 GT swapped to "Cobra" w/ Teksid, forged internals, 10:8.1 comp, C port heads PnP'd by Jason Steen, 304cfm @ .500 lift, FR500 cams, PI, LT's, O/R X, Borla's, QA1 and UPR everywhere, subframe conn's, swarr barr, custom AL DS behind a 4R70W trans. 332rwhp/327rwtq last dyno. Runs 11.93's @ 114 mph. With 3300lbs~!

    If you want a little pep, a CAI and tune is money well spent.

    if you really get crazy with the 4.0, it can put down some decent power with a blower.

    And yeah, there's always those who say 'get a v8' instead

    You can make a sixxer with 600rwhp but like others have said it gets unreliable at that point and you end up putting thousands of dollars down to trade out parts that come stock on the gt's.

    For a sixxer I recommend:
    CAI/Tuner
    Gears (3.73)
    and basic exhaust if you want to VROOOM (but the exhaust is ONLY personal preference not required)

    Doing anything other than what I mentioned above and you're talking big money for small gains.

    I've crunched the numbers because I was thinking about modding the sh** out of my '09 sixxer. I've decided to stop at exhaust and CAI/tuner and save up for a GT.

    here's some numbers if you're interested:
    blown = $5000-7000 for PARTS
    AOD -> tr6060 (or tr3650) = $4000-6000 for PARTS
    7.5" -> 8.8" fully assembled rear end = $1200+ for PARTS

    If you want to go fast and want more than just CAI/gears then run a 75 shot of nitrous. Works fine on bone stock s197's.

    add 8.8 and 3.73's and intake. my buddies 5 speed with this ran 14.1. he did ported heads from super six and added 25 hp. he did a 100 shot and dynoed 330/373 without the heads.

    anothers buddy auto ran 13.1 on 7.5 with one wheel peel with 75 shot.

    +1.
    And if you can do a lot work yourself, the prices posted above are cut by about 2/3.

    Yeah, some of us V6's can hang and blow away GTs.

    Just enjoy your Mustang, and do what you want to it

    Here's what I plan for my V6 (2006 vert):
    18 inch black Bullet wheels (done)
    Dual exhaust (done) got installed on StangTV Pype's stainless X pipe w/ GT mufflers
    80mm Throttle body
    Cold Air Intake
    Ford Racing suspension pack
    Eibach lowering springs
    Ram air Hood (on the way)
    GT 500 spoiler (spoiler express $250 painted)
    Shelby CS6 front bumper cover
    GT rear Bumper cover (newtakeoffs.com)
    Tune....

    I'm going concervative and not installing a blower, its my Daily driver....
    Before anyone else makes a crack about "a V8 upgrade", know that my other car is a Shelby GT!
    The 4.0 V6 is a very strong engine. Caroll Shelby choose the V6 mustangs as the platform for his Terlingua Mustangs, y'all want to argue about V8 upgrades to him?

    2 of the mods that I want to do. But I definitely want to do an 8.8 w/3.73 swap and a blower. But at the same time, my step-kids are fighting over who gets my car, and I really don't think a car with a blower is good for a first car LOL. So I think my next move is to save up for a GT. But the CAI and tune woke my sixxer up big time.

    i have heard in the past that the 05+ have a phenomenal response to an intake and tune. id start there and work your way up.
    2000 Mustang 3.8, Super 44 dump, Mach 1 rims, Ziex tires, Blacked out Tails, Shorty Antenna, Mach 1 chin spoiler, CAI, Pioneer Premier Head Unit, H&R SS springs, MM c/c plates, KYB GR-2 shocks and struts. Soon to come - 42% Motoblue Underdrive pulleys, Sniper Tune, thinkin about a turbo....
