Question Anyone know of

a good place to kit an Auto C4 master tranny rebuild kit besides auto zone and such? my 3rd gear is going out . I did check with MU and they have it for $67 i think.
also, is $37 for a shift kit a good price?
oh, and btw, my car originally had a 6er in it, would the tranny kit matter if I buy a 200(as in the engine) tranny rebuild kit or a 289 tranny rebuild kit

Um ..... why are you not asking your Father this???

He's the one who is supposed to be doing the C4 in MY Mustang .... upon your referral.

Should I be scared here?

As long as the tranny kit matches the trans you have you should be ok. The C4/C6/FMX kits are not interchangeable. I would swap out your whole 66 tranny out for a later model year C4 just to get you up and running in the meantime. There are not a lot of high performance master rebuild kits for the 65-66 models.

Then save up some cash and buy one of the high performance rebuild kits available for the later year c4's. There are more options for the 67 and up models, then you can take your time and rebuild it with one of the Master Racing Overhaul kit or the Pro Super kit from TCI. These have high performance bands and clutches usually kevlar. If you build one of these it will almost be bullet proof. I also recommend upgrading your servo to the C code for better shifting.

Cause he doesn't know what brand the seals are. And he doesn't really know of shops around town anymore.

Go to Nogalitos Gear off of New Laredo Hwy and ask for Nick . He is a short Mexican guy with a pony tail . He's pretty smart on automatic parts . I've dealt with him a few times for small personal stuff as I do not build automatics for customers .

So cuz a seal says National on it versus no name at all is keeping him from a build??

Makes no sense, calm down Ryan, no need for cussing under the radar, Mike is a knowledgeable man and was trying to give you a source for info.

Well, he's done trannys for 35+ years and knows what seals work and don't work. Just like you saying this part made by this manufacturer isn't good, get my point?
And he didn't have to be a dick about it.
I know that name Nogolitos gear though. Think we used to buy from there.

I'm not dissing your old man here but I will say this . Anyone , I mean anyone thats been doing transmissions for 35 years does not just forget whats good and whats not . I've been doing standards for 12 years now I can tell you every single part of just about any modern 4,5 or 6 spd transmission and transfer case . Hell I even know most of the parts by their proper names , common names , OEM part numbers and after market part numbers . I can look at a unit and tell you exactly what it came from and the year range it came in as well . Maybe I'm just that good or maybe its just my experience shining through . Either way , its not something that just goes blank after a while .

If you are taking what I have to say as being a dick , then so be it . I'm just stating the obvious here from one transmission builder to the next .

you clearly misunderstood me. I never said he forgot what is good and is not good. The kits don't say what brand of seals and such they are and he would like to know what brand they are to know if its any good or not. Thats what I was trying to get at.

I am sorry if I misunderstood you . Have your pops call down to Nogalitos Gear and speak with Nick . Nick can sell him everything he needs . Their number is 210-923-4571 . Your dad will need to know what year the C4 is so that they will know if its a case filled or pan filled unit . It does make a difference in certain parts inside the C4 . I am not an automatic expert by any means although I have done a couple of them for family members .
