You could probably run a dual battery switch like in a boat. It allows you to select 1 or both batteries and select off so you essentially turn off the car elec sys.(no stealing)

How big of a system are you running? :omg: I have a 600 watt setup and have a 1 farad capacitor from Rockford Fosgate. You run the wiring from the battery to the cap and the cap to the amp...it eliminated my dimming lights and can withstand most hits

You need a 1 farad cap per 1000 watts

so...2000 watts get a 2 farad cap

a 1 farad cap with a digital voltmeter will run you about $120 - less for non-branded.
It works and is a lot easier than a new battery.

Yeah, when my subs hit at 112 dB and i go 88 mph i can go anywhere i want to in time!

All i need is 1.21 gigawatts of power - i need alternators in all 4 wheels for that kind of power... :highjacke

I not running a system. They install dual and sometimes triple batteries in boats for trolling motors etc. the switch I was refering to allows you to run off of 1 or bothe at the same time also allows chg sys to chg 1 or both as well as allowing you to switch off all elec power. Dont know if that is what you want or not just a suggestion.

ok, I'll check into the boat switch---where can I get one and who makes them. As far as my sys...I have a total of 1600 RMS watts (courtesy 3 RF amps), a 5 farad alumapro cap and some other goodies. I haven't installed it yet because I'm waiting to buy the 0 gauge wire, dist blocks and all the necessary wiring. I have a 130 amp alt--but I'm pretty sure it won't handle that system without a second battery. I'm now debating if I should just get a 200amp alt and forget the whole second battery all together--it will save a lot of money in wiring, battery case and a new second battery. I still need to do some more research. I still don't forsee the install for at least a couple of more months. Thanks for the advice

5 FARAD CAP!!!!

Man, you are going to need a higher alternator...ive gone through 2 130 alts in my s-10 with just 1 farad!

You know, a 1 farad cap has enough power to kill 10 connected people!
Ive short circuited mine once and the bang was so loud that my ears were ringing for a coupla minutes! Id hate to short circuit a 5 farad beast!

Eventhough your system is a little overkill...0 gauge wire!...you need a higher power alt, maybe that with a second battery!

Id like to see that system all set up!
