Good for low end torque. But then you can get some 4.30s to fix that. Not reall torque numbers on a dyno, but you'll get the feel.

Good for a low to low mild set up, bad for all out.

Back in the saddle again

good if you have a high compression motor
you need a balance if you are running your average n/a street car. running headers and open h can make less hp than a car with mufflers

4 valve FTW

so.... larger pipe diameter exhaust + free flowing muffler = low back pressure ? seriously how much could too much back pressure or too little back pressure hurt a NA motor?

My car ran better with an O/R H compared to the O/R X that's on there.

Back pressure can be good and can be bad depending on the setup and over all goals . On a small engine or mild engine , I say some back pressure is needed to maintain torque . On larger engines or more radically built engines , it becomes less of an issue .
There is also a big debate over using a X pipe vs. H pipe .vs no cross over pipe at all . I have always been a fan of the X design because it just seems to make more sense to me . Guys a lot smarter than me have told me that my car would run better with an H pipe over the X and even faster yet with just a simple extension off the header and a non chambered muffler . I still have my X pipe and MAC flowpaths on the car mainly because I like the way it sounds but I might do some changing around to pick up some ET . |
