What is the best solution for getting a surface scratch out?

if it is just clearcoat, Turtle wax makes a synthetic scratch remover/polish. its like $15 for a small bottle, but it is completely worth it. it's what i use on mine. but if it's bigger than a hairline scratch, i don't know.
