Biggest tire size

I have a 06 GT with the 17' bulitt rims with the original tires. I want to put different tires and was wondering what the widest tire that I could put with the seventeens. I want the height of the tire to stay the same but want it wider. Thanks!

i dont know if it changes but on my 98 with 17's I got away with 275 40 on the rear. I could of done a 285 but hear I run the risk of uneven tread loss in the center (crowning). I kept with 245 45 on the front.

+1...275/40 is probably about the widest you'd want to go on an 17x8in wheel. It will bulge a little, but not too much. Keep in mind that certain manufactures are wider then others, despite being listed as the same size...
