i'm not trying to intentionally butt heads, but do you have gears? in theory it sounds right but in practice, you'll be lucky to get the same mpg in the city and your hwy mpg gets shot unless you cruise at 45mph like jeff does. >:O

tim... what tranny do you have. typically 5spd guys go with 3.73's due to their very short first gear and the automatics go for 4.10's. i have 4.10's in my 5spd and it's definitely enough gear for the car.

now that there is a 3.8 forum, you can ask q's and i won't dog on ya quite as much, but you'd still be better served from going to a specialty site instead of this one.

Yes i do have gears and have for sometime, And I'm not refering to switching to 4.10's...If he went to 3.55 or 3.73 he would get better gas milage...It takes less for his V6 to get the car moving...It would only be bad for his gas milage if he runs with his RPM's up high, but that is what 5th gear is for...

P.S. I do have 4.10's...I do drive my car to the Fun Ford Events that I compete in.. Last one was 1200 miles away..and I do have over 120 passes on my car..So I got the pratice..

around town the milage will probably go up a tad, but nothing noticible.

on the highway the milage will decrease, thats just a fact.

best bet would be to go with gears instead of forced induction, only because you have little knowledge, i can't say much because i have little knowledge myself, but am slowing learning a thing or two about forced induction. On what type of gears, after driving a car with 4.10 gears i would go with 3.73 only because driving down the road at 65, 70 mph, the car was running at about 3 grand (4.10 gears). I have heard good things about 3.73 gears and i'm planning on putting some in my car later this week.

save up about a grand, look for a used blower, and install it yourself.

cheap and easy.

get gears too.
