I'd do it the way we did Mikes vette, stock bottom end, AFR heads, Cam , Fast intake, and T/B, and spray.... went 9.96 at 146 if i remember correctly, think how much less your car weighs and how much faster that it would go...lol..

Ok a update on where im going with this. Right now I have ordered the stroker kit for the 351 to make it a 408 all forged of course with flat top pistons. I will be ordering the AFR heads for it today probably. I am still trying to figure if I want to go with a super victor or victor jr intake. I know I am going with a solid roller cam but not sure which one to go with yet. Trying to figure between a 850 holly doublepumper or a mighty demon. Also thought about geardrive for timing but never used any so not sure if I should or just stick with double roller timing chain. After im done building this engine I will probably also build the LS1 engine but that might take me a little bit to get over the bills for this one. Anyway let me know what you think and if you have any advice for the cam, timing, intake, and carb or anything for that matter.

Start with the cam and work out from there. Do not build the motor around the heads and intake as the cam is the brains of the whole deal. At this point I would go with a custom cam as they are not that much more than an off the shelf cam and you will build really good power as the cam desinger can help you pick the heads and intake.

Go with this combo and you will be glad you did :

408W (good internals and neutral balanced)
main support system
Pro Products SFI balancer
B&M or JW flexplate (stay away from CAT or SCAT)
AFR 205's
Good rockers like Comp Pro Mags or something along those lines
rocker arm girdle from Jomar
Edelbrock Super Vic intake or a good used ported Vic Jr.
850 Mighty Demon with good fuel system
Custom solid roller cam from either Ed Curtis (FTI) or Jay Allen (CI)
Good pushrods like .080 wall from Comp or better
SA Gear true double roller timing chain set
Melling oil pump
Canton pan and pick up
MSD distributor for the 351W VIC intake
MSD ignition / coil / wires
BBK or MAC 1 3/4 long tubes with matching mid pipe

This combo with the right gear , tire and suspension will run mid to low tens all day long N/A . You can probably even do it on pump gas .
