    C4 issues....

So i noticed i started having some small issues with the C4 in my '73 about 2 weeks ago. It started with only light stumbling in 1st when beginning acceleration. Then i noticed it wouldm after the stumble it would go from 1-2 nice and firm, then it would go 2-3 and take a while to actually shift. the engine would actually rev up a bit during the shift and it wasnt firm. Today i was driving fine, came to a stop, then accelerated and 2-3 took forever. the engine revved up alot. i thought it wasnt gonna go into gear so i let off and coasted. acclerated again and the same thing happened. I stopped at a gas station to check fluid level and it was ok, however i did notice that the fluid wasnt red, more of a brownish brick color and had a lot of bubbles. So i decided to drive back home. As i got on the highway after revving up high again, it finally shifted. then crusinag at about 70 it seem to go in and out of gear, sortof surging and then easying off. IDK, kinda hard to describe the feeling it gave. So i made it home and thats where im at.

Anybody can tell whats going on here? Worjk out disks,, bands? IDK.

BTW its a C4 with a B/M shift improver kit.

would the feeling of coming in and out of gear be referred to as slipping?

Yes, it's slipping and yes it needs to come out to get rebuilt. The late shifts are likely a result of friction material in the fluid, causing valves to hang up in the governor and or valve body and likely the line pressure is low as a result of internal fluid leaks and friction material plugging the filter.
The current combo is an '85 coupe with 302 bored and stroked to 364, Ported Twisted Wedge heads and a BXR intake, A9M ECM with a Moates chip, Doug Nash 5 spd, 4.56 gears, Hoosier 275/60/15 drag radials.
Daily driver '89 GT 302 stock block, crank, rods and pistons, ported GT-40P heads with stock valves, Ported Explorer intake, B302 cam, Z spec T5, 3.73 gears, Moates chip and no traction. Made 325 whp and 325 wtq.

yes i do believe the line pressure is definately low. Becuase before id put the car in D and it would pop forward, same with reverse. Felt strong, now u cant even tell that u shanged gears....

obtaining an AOD is in the works right now with a fellow LLSer.... I already planned to do this swap but didnt think it would be this soon.
