Cams

Im planning on doing a PI swap this summer and instead of the PI cams Im wanting to put some better cams in the heads while they are out. What cams should I get and where can I get them?

check this link out. Cushmanmotorsports.com this is the same guy that made those famous VT stage 2 cams. they are the exact same cams. I currently have in my 02 black stang VT stage 2 N/A cams and love them. besides the valve springs, they are not too hard to install. Im sure Lethal Performance or ANRmotorsports could give you a good price on the install. they both do good work.

I prefer to pull the engine to do a head change. The head bolts being damn near 12 inches in length don't make it easy, dropping the engine with the k-member and tranny is so much faster and ensures no mishaps on the MLS head gaskets, not to mention, it would be an opportune time to slap some long tubes in while it's out.

Jody made a good point. I installed my cams with the motor in and it was a PITA. I could emagine removing and installing some heads with exhaust manifold still in. you dont really have much room with a 4.6 mod motor. and they say for best results from the cams you should get long tubes. I dynoed 286 hp and 288 torque to the wheels with simple bolt ons and cams. I wish, I should have waited a little longer to save some dow and had my heads ported and polished. I know with a PI conversion on a non PI motor you will see bigger numbers with the cams then my stang. because of you compression being higher with the head swap.

Yea, thats another plus to the swap is the extra compression.

I'd suggest an oil pump too then, possibly new chain tensioners, chains, guides, and tensioner arms to be safe. Plus, it is cheap insurance that far in the motor, no additional labor, just parts. All those parts come off in the head swap anyway, minus the oil pump.
