I have Sprint, never had any problems and even get decent service out in BFE where I live with my parents.

I also had Cingular about 2 years ago, but when I lived in College Station I had really crappy service.

I have Cingular now and love it. Mainly cuz my family and my wifes family have Cingular also and we have the cingular to Cingular free option, plus rolover, plus free weekends, internet etc..

plus the reception is great, never had a problem in Texas or the drive to Detroit or Florida.
I had Sprint and the reception here in SA sucked. Nextel was decent but the coverage was iffy and kinda expensive.

I honestly think a lot of it has to do with the quality of the phone.

My phone bill still says AT&T, but it should be saying Cingular sometime soon. Raising the bar. Service is good, customer service is good. I guess it helps that I have a decent discount on my plan, though.

I'd also say this has more to do with it than some people realize. My phone seems to get good reception in areas where friends phones keep dropping signal and since we both are on the same carrier I figure that their phone has to have something to do with it. I figure it's better to stay away from the phones that they give out for free with the plan or for less than 20 bucks since usually those are the ones being phased out or trying to get rid of.

Sprint..............
Never have any reception problems even at the folks house in Fredricksburg.

As for the phone qaulity I have had the same phone for almost 4 yrs. now and never even replaced the battery and it will still last 2-3 days on acharge depending on how much I talk on it.

Wow! Thanks for all the input. Seems like most people like what they have. I just need to find a plan that works for me. On the subject of phone quality, I agree the "free" phones aren't going to be as up-to-date as the ones you have to pay extra for, but most of them were the "upgraded" phones just a couple of years ago. Does the technology change so quickly your phone is out-of-date almost the day after you buy it? Speaking of which, what makers do you guys recommend? I've heard bad things about Motorola and am leaning toward Nokia.

When I was in Austin, I worked for Motorola. We were "encouraged" to use moto phones. I had 2 different model moto phones back-to-back, both lasting less than a year each. screen kept going out on both. Ialso had to replace the antenna every few months. I switched to a Samsung and ,although most of the features it has are "girly", it's been a great phone. I've only had aproblem with the battery life. My ex even dropped it a few times and it still runs great - It looks like she might've scraped it on some pavement.
