    cleaning break dust

I was kinda wondering what was the best way to get caked on brake dust off the rims... Theres a little on the painted part and I wanna clean the inside of the wheel too. How hard of a brush do i use on the wheels?

I just use a soapy cotton wash rag .... use your used/dirty car-wash water and a soft (older) car rag. Brake dust should easily remove without much effort. The hard part is getting in the little crevices ...

I'm not sure if its break dust... it looks like rust and its totally caked onto one of my rear wheels but if I take my finger nail i can scrape bits of it off... I've tryed soaking in simple green among other house hold cleaners and I've barely put a dent in the stuff.

Ew. Yeah, that might not just be dust ... maybe dust-caked grease? Simple Green doesn't even dent it? Wow.

    Um.

Take an old toothbrush and see if it comes off with a little S.G. then? Just don't dig and gouge - just scrub lightly with the bristles.

lol yeah I eventually tryed that last night after I sprayed it with simple green put some plastic on it and let it soak for about an hour. The stuff started to come off but theres still quite a bit there... I'm thinkin if I just keep doing that I'll eventually get it off.

well if simple green dont work...... try POWER PURPLE......but dont get that stuff on your paint. it will eat your clear coat.

i work at car max and that what we use in the back to clean the rims that have brake dust build up on them.......comes off pretty damn easy. just spray and let it soak a minute then wipe it off.
