cluster

Can any one tell me how to get around the pats when installing a new cluster . Its a 2001 gt.

I just saw in the one of the new mustang mags that they were able to "tune" it out with some sort of programmer. If you can find that locally then thats the only way that i know of. I program PATS keys at work and there isnt anything you can do to get around it but get it reprogrammed or the above mentioned which must be fairly new technology.

Can i take a used cluster and just put it into my car and not reprogram it ?

Nope. The cluster, PCM, and PATS keys all are programmed together. If any of it is not then it will not work.

Reflashing the PCM with an aftermarket tuner will do nothing to the PATS function. You must use the Ford/NGS scan tool or equivalent. It's a dealer type diagnostic reader, can also update PCM's, but not for performance, and do a million other things. I use one every day at work.
