Coilover Spring Rates and Sizes?

Can anyone help demystify the spring rates, height, and diameter for a coilover spring?

I am currently getting a used setup with an MM coilover kit and Koni reds (non-adjustable). The springs according to the person selling them are Hypercoil Coil Over Spring, 425 lb/in, 10", 2-1/2" dia. and I am not sure if this spring is to much for a street application. I was told that for a street application I should go with around a 325-350 lb/in setup as to get good cornering out of the car. I'm wondering if the ones I am getting are more suitable for the track. Not really sure how the length and diameter will affect the stiffness and ride height either...

BTW - My '94 GT currently has Steeda Sport springs in the stock location.

Please Help!!!

Thanks...

You are posting a lot of questions in a place that may or may not have the answers. You will most likely get much more technical data and better research at www.corner-carvers.com. It will take a couple of days to register and read the wiki very carefully. If you start a thread that is something you could have used the search button on they will most likely terminate your memebership. This forum is very technical and they are like sharks...they smell a drop of blood in a million gallons of water. The upside of the site is the fact that there are lots of engineers, techs, mechanics, designers, etc on this site that can work through a probelm and provide technical data to support their reasoning. Another perk is that Jack Hildey from Maximum Motorsports frequents this site pretty regularily. I pretty much just lurk around over there and do a lot of research. Another place that actually has a road racing forum is The Corral - Home and Jack Hidley frequents this site as well.

I forgot one more site. This is the one that I like as it is a bunch of racers that enjoy helping out people who are new to the whole concept of right and left hand turns. Open Track Source
