Cure My WOT Pinging
I have been having this pinging problem for a while now when I get on it. It dosent do it until the rev's get up to about 4000-4500 rpm's. Ive tried running 93 octane with about 15 degrees initial timing and I recently bumped it down to the lousy 10 degrees and it still does it. I have a good tune up and all of the associated parts are new. My plugs are a couple of months old and they looked brand new when I checked them recently. There gapped at .54. I'm lost as to what else it could be. Would a dirty ACT sensor cause that? Do I need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to give me a little more fuel at the top end? Remember my car is still speed density and my mods are in the sig. I can use all the help I can get. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure your harmonic balancer is good?It is possible it has spun causing you to set the timing wrong.I ran my timing as high as 22 initial with no ping. That was with 93.

Well the balancer looks good. The rubber is still in it and hasnt fallen out. But I can tell the power difference when I go from 10 degrees to 15 or 16 degrees timing, so it's gotta be close.

I was thinking about getting an additive to clean my injectors too but I believe a lot of those are gimmics. Does anyone recommend one in particular that works? What would be a colder plug from what I have? I for got which way the numbers went. An AFPR would be my last option. I need to get a guage and see how much PSI I have at WOT.

Why should he run a colder plug? What kind of mods have been done to the car?Anything to raise the compression? If you did raise the compression then a colder plug is needed. Is your EGR valve working?I need some info to help ya!:2thumbup:

The compression ratio is stock and I have the EGR valve functioning but the EGR crossover on the back of the heads is removed. I was thinking of removing the EGR valve and the EGR vaccum thingy on the shock tower and take it off. I have seen a lot of mustangs run that way with no problems at all. I read on another forum that if the ACT sensor is dirty than it could cause a lean condition and the car would ping. I appreciate the help. Thanks.

I don't think the plugs would be the problem. I am thinking along the lines of a bad sensor or just not enough fuel getting to the fire. I will look into this in a couple of weeks so I can get my car out to the track.
