debating shifters...

ok, so i installed a pro5.0 not TOO long ago. before that i had an older hurst shifter. i did not get a good handle with the pro5.0, and didnt even get the right bolts for it. so i had to ghetto rig it, so i have to tighten the bolts once a week usually. the shifter itself works ok. but sometimes it seems like it gets stuck, and doesnt wanna go into gear. however, im not sure if that is the clutch adjustment being way to tight, or if its just because the shifter is messed up. i know i was having clutch problems before.

anyways, i installed the pro5.0 before i had the clutch work done, but not much before. so im not sure if its the shifter or the clutch that is causing my problem.

now here is the question:

ive been debating putting my hurst shifter back in. it DOES NOT have the 3rd gear mechanism like the pro5.0 does, but it has fixed grooves on the handle so that handle will not loosen like the pro5.0 does to me. also, if the problem of getting in to gear is from the pro5.0, there is no doubt i will take that thing out and get some money back for it, and just use the hurst. not like its a hard install anyways. both shifters ARE short-throw. basically only difference is the 3rd mechanism.

anyone got any thoughts on this?

i appreciate it!

Never tried a Pro 5.0 I have a Hurst in mine and have had no problems with it. Hitting third with it doesn't seem to be a problem.

My B&M Ripper shifter has shift stops on it. I had the same problem getting it to go into gear sometimes or getting stuck but all I did was install a Steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster and it shifts like new. Do you have the original quadrant?

i had a SVO Quadrant in there that was helping me burn clutches. so i replaced that with a new stock one. so i have a stock quadrant that is like 5 months old, at most. same goes for the cable.

Did you have a firewall adjuster, or an adjustable cable so you could adjust the clutch properly?

i had an adjustable quadrant and cable. but, when i had the clutch done the first time, it was ghetto rigged. im not exactly sure what they did, but larry fixed it. i dont think its as good as stock, but it works. thats what ya get when you try to take the cheap route and go to mustang extreme:2thumbdwn

i dunno... im not sure what is up with my clutch anymore. thats why im not sure if i should switch shifters or not.

Try shifting without the clutch and see if it goes into gear easy or not. Does your clutch slip any? Do you have any free play in the pedal? I figured out my problem by shifting without the clutch and knew the stock quad wasnt letting the clutch disengage all the way making it hard to shift. I almost pulled the tranny and replaced it but once I tried the shifting without the clutch I determined the quadrant was crap so I replaced it.
