Do I need a new CCRM??

I just bought a 94 mustang Gt with 171,000 miles on it. Got a sweet deal, very cheap. Car seemed to run good when I test droved it..... boy I was wrong. I've had it for about a month, and so far I rebuild the trany(AODE). I replaced the TPS sensor and some other small repairs.

Last week i experienced some colling issues. Car started to overheat while I was driving back home. Gauge meter was on top of the red line"H", so I pulled over. I did my research about these 94/95 sn95's and found several helpful leads.

I learned these were know to have several cooling issues. Also found out that the temp gauge is know to go bad. Here's what I done so far...

Replaced the thermostat (192F)
Burped the cooling system 4 times (started car with heater on high)
Flushed the radiator
Replaced the cooling temp sensor
Full tune-up(cap, rotor, plugs, wires ext.)

My problem is the fan won't come on at high temps nor when the A/C is on. Will this be the reason for the car to over heat?

Here is the funny part Monday, when I first replaced the thermostat, I drove it for about 10 miles(street) with not problems, no over heating. Today I went to pick up the old lady and car started to overheat, so I turned the heater full blast. Needle managed to stay away form "H" but it was very close. When I got home I opened the hood and the fan was smoking and coolant was poring out of the reservoir tank.

I read somewhere here if you unplug the cooling temp sensor and start the car, the fan should start running and you also get a check engine light. Well I did that and fan was still not running, check engine light did come on.

Need help guys what do you think is my problem? Do I need a new CCRM? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention, fan spins by hand and all fuses seem to be okay.

Chances are high that the CCRM High speed relay is fried, hence no fan with a/c on (which is normally the high speed).

They are pricey too....

OK

yes 94-95s are a pain. I have painfully delt with about every possible problem there is.

yes, your ccrm is burnt up. I had to hard wire my fan off the battery to a relay.

you can get a good 50-60 amp relay for about 20 bucks and run power to it off the battery. ground it and run a turn on wire to a switch in the car AND you can run it to a a temp sensor on the radiator.

This will make your life with the car far far better.

Now the stock radiator with 170 miles sucks, and i mean SUUUUUCKS

do yourself the biggest favor in the world. spend the 169 on the 3 inch radiator from summit. the universal 2 core. There should be some threads on how to install it.

This and a manual fan switch wire up to only the low speed fan will make your car run at 175-180 degrees and 200 with the a/c on in traffic on a 90 degree day.

... I also had an autometer mechanical water temp guage.

There also the famed pinging problems with stock heads. there is alot of part throttle timing around 4k in these cars. I tracked it and as the temps got to 200 the motor would always have faint pinging event at stock timing!

The car also slowed down 1.5-2 mph at the track consistantly when the temps got to 200.

do yourself a favor, do this mod (the radiator) and save yourself years of headaches. its a better investment than any bolton you will do.

Car will be a daily so Im not going to get too crazy on the mods. New 302 will be dropped by the end of the year. Radiator for sure will be replaced.

Thanks for the heads up.

i would do those 2 things to any stock 94-95

Their biggest problem is the overheating and the pinging

when the odometer stops working, the gear costs 25 bucks and its easy to rplace in the dash... yours will probably go out here pretty soon.

next stop radiator! if your fan and ccrm are working then that will make your car run amazingly cool throughout the summers to come

if you need a part number i will get it for you.
