Just wondering if anyone here knows what might cause my car to run lean. Here is what ive tried/replaced so far:
O2 sensors IAB EGR Fuel Filter MAF Intake Manifold (found a crack in it) Smog Pump All the gaskets ...and ive had a shop in CS and in Houston search for Vaccumm leaks and both have found nothing. I just changed the MAF and i really thought that was going to fix it, and right now im just super stumped. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. thanks Swisher PS: Houston Performance already told me my problem was the lack of a Big Block...but i think ill stick to the stock 302 for a little longer... ![]() |

You might want to post this up in the "tech" section ... We have some pretty informative guys there. Not to mention a couple mechanics ....
Infact I'm gonna move this to that section......

My 88 is doing the same thing and the first things that im going to try are the CTS and the IAC sensors. They play a pretty big role in the A/F ratio.

I checked out my IAB and it appears to be working fine. I havent checked my CTS, and if im guessing correct thats the Coolant Temperature Sender right? Another wierd thing is when the weather gets colder my car has a little more trouble starting up in the mornings. Could these two things be related?
PS: Nosreplive, thanks for the move. ![]() |

Mine has the same starting problem when its cold out. CTS is the coolant temp sensor on top of the heater bypass rail. Also I am talking about the IAC, intake air charge sensor located on the driver side front lower intake. That will be the first thing I will replace. But im sure all of it has something to do with each other, esp if its temp related. Have you tried scanning your codes to see if you have any sensors out of range?

its probably your fuel pump and AIB. make sure the U is turned so the air blows right through it.
the sensor is on the #5 runner |

Ok just to correct you guys it is not CTS it is actually
ECT engine coolant temperature sensor and it will cause cold starting problems, most common symptom and does affect air /fuel ratio. The ACT air cooled temp sensor does not have an affect on a/f ratio. Your most common componnet for a/f ratio is the MAF. Check your fuel pressure it should be 30 to 35 psi with vacum 40 to 42 with out vacum , if problem is lean at higher RPM's fuel volume maybe the concern. and also check igntion timing depending on your aplication. Just some suggestions:jeff:

My fuel pump is only a year and half old, and the only codes im pulling are left O2 sensor lean and right O2 sensor lean. I checked my fuel pressure and it checked ok and the shop in Houston checked it for me when they replaced my intake manifold and they mentioned that it was fine. As soon as I get paid im going to look into replacing my ECT and see if that helps any. thanks for the info SilverSnake.
