Exhaust

in a few weeks here i get out of school, therefore i will be making money again and i want a new cat-back system. i will be buying a GT catback system since i have a h-pipe that fits GT catback systems. i have gt-takeoff with 40 series flows(see sig) and its just not loud enough. i CANNOT remove any cats just a cat-back system i'm willing to spend a fair amount of money to do it as long as it sounds good. i wanted SLP but then i heard it sounds like SH!T on a v-6 so any suggestions i was thinking borla pro's cons(other than $$$$).

on a side note anyone know any good paintshops that will match DSG for my rear bumper for a good price.in SA area

Guys I'm going to get MAC LT's w/ MAC O/R H-pipe, what do you guys suggest I get as the rest of the exhaust. I'm planning on making it side exit, but haven't really come up with a final decision to get it as a side-exit system.

Don (SlvStng) has the same setup you are looking at and with borlas, dumped. I am supposed to swap with him relatively soon. I'll figure out a way to get a sound clip whenever we get around to it.

If you are getting headers though, do not get shorties. They do very little for power (nor sound). In my opinion, headers on a 3.8 should definitely be the last on the list. I didn't listen, and I regret it. However, on a power adder car it's a good one! Magazines aren't a good thing to go from, but MAC shorties dynoed 1rwhp and long tubes were 6rwhp. I forgot about tq but I know it at least matches the respective hp numbers.

Get them coated... the MAC coat sucks. Come look at my <2 year old headers and see how they rust (and leak).

Well, the rusting won't be as bad as a problem for me, my part of Texas has NO humidity....ever. :P And I am going with LT's but it'll be at least september before this gets done, seeing as I won't really have time until the fall to really do anything.

Christian (musclestang721) has spintechs via side exhaust and IMO I think they sound pretty good for a v6.

2-chambered Flows on a v6 is a no-no. I have yet to hear it sound good (or even decent) on a v6. sounds ricey to me.

***disclaimer. my opinion. I definitely don't mean it as a shot at anyone who is running that setup. I promise.

I'm still not sure which to get....Borla XR-1 Bullet mufflers, or a muffler that the inlet is on the same side as the exit, like a spintech or borla or roush system. I just picked up some roush side exit side skirts which I hope I can get a muffler shop to make some custom tips to fit in the skirts, I'm not real big on paying the 180 dollas for the official Roush tips.

i got tore up for saying the same thing. i think jeff (bandit) has 3 chambered not 2's, and his does sound good, even at high rpms. but yeah, you're right... flow 40's tend to sound like rackety ass.

Putting Borlas on a V6 is like feeding a homeless guy caviar (sp?). It's great, but over the top. Warlocks sound absolutely great on a V6... as do Spintechs.

Aren't Warlocks a single inlet dual outlet though? how would they a true dual side exhaust application?

well, looking at their pics it seems they can only be capped on the same side as the inlet, which is exactly what I am not going for, cause that still causes the exhaust to come out the far end of the muffler unless the flange completely comes off of the muffler, which I don't really think it does.
