    Faster v6

Ok i guess its time for all of y"all to make fun of me again cause now i have a couple of noob questions.

Since i've got my car i've had 2 rice burners want to race me. I struggled to keep up with the first one so i quit at about 90mph cause i knew he would eventually smoke me. The second time a different car wanted to race the car backed off once we past the 100mph range.

So my question are, How can i make my car a little faster on the take or just faster in general?

Keep in mind i know NOTHING about modifing cars, so keep the car jargon down to a minimum

I've heard people mention 4:10 gears, what is that? whats the cost? and How does it help?

I think the question here should be.....How can I make myself a little smarter? Not...How can i make my car a little faster?

Street racing is just plain STUPID.....and Illegal!! There is always a lot of cars out on the streets that will always be faster than you.........Live with it.......and don't die in a street race.

ahh f*** that live balls to the wall.. nah what he said is true. IT IS NOT WORK IT AT THEM SPEEDS ANYMORE!!! i hardly say this but i should have died twice street racing and all in all it is not worth it to me anymore especually when you racing a v6 (NO OFFENSE TO THE V6 OWNERS HERE) v.s. a jap trap! if you really wanna see whose car is faster pay the 20 bucks and head out to midnight madness. it took me awhile to realize the consiquences there is and when u weigh it out its always ends up bad one way or another keep it clean and safe and race at the track

take it from someone with experience, i barely got away from a cop and my buddy behind me got a 800 dollar ticket for street racing, another did jail time because he was going so fast it was a federal offense (145 in a 65) take it to the track. BUT in the realm of making it faster, to start with a cold air intake and tune, s197s (your body style) are supposed to respond greatly to them, you already have an exhaust if i remember right, after that gears, and so on and so forth

Im not going to act like your dad and tell you what and what not to do on the street.. so ill stick to your question.

Dont waste money on a Cold air intake, they are useless on these cars. Get 4.10 rear end gears and you should be able to handle yourself up to about 100. I dont see the point of racing past 100-110 because there should be a clear winner by then.

Short of going with a supercharger, I would say thats the only mod you should get. v6 mustangs are fairly lame, my body style GTs are right there with em IMO. lol

Or, get an SR20. I hear they fetch a premium right before Race Wars, though.

^i would have to disagree with you, the 05-09 4.0 has dyno proven results with the JLT and C&L cold air intakes, which require a tune. AND, i think its pretty disrespectful to call anybodys car lame, just for asking a simple question, but i guess i can expect that from some of the v8 guys that think their car is almighty

To stay on topic with the thread... If I were to mod my v6 I daily... I would drop in 410's and a posi or something to get both tires spinning instead of just one.

First of all, what year is your car?

If its a 94-98, dont do anything to it. You will have to sink a lot of money into a singleport v6 to get it anywhere near fast.

if its a 99-04, your best/easiest/cheapest bet is to get gears and a tuner. 4.10s, or 3.73s. Research to figure out which ones would be best for your application.

if its a 05+- they do respond alot better to mods than any year before. CAI and tuner will do a little. Gears will do a decent amount

Full exhaust would be the next thing i would do on all of these, just so you can have a little bit of a better sound, and a little more power

But the bottom line on modding a v6 mustang is- unless you have a lot of cash to throw at it (for a supercharger/turbo), it just wont be very fast.

It was aimed at the motor itself, dont make a drama out of it because you got your feelings hurt. I was telling the guy not to waste his money because fords idea of a v6 is LAME. they have the capablities to make a decent motor but they dont and just recently started because they had to.

Sometimes the truth hurts but disrespectful it was not.

Take it from greg, he spent IDK how much on n/a mods and ended up with stock GT power

Boost and gears is the only way to go

And yes JJ, pushrods are FTW.

mustang melish^i will agree with that, no matter what it wont ever be a gt, and he has 07 i think..
so if it was me, id get a JLT CAI, SCT xcal3, and 410s and call it a day

opentrackgt, did i not just say that i dont care, im saying the way it appeared was disrespectful to him, he didnt ask to build a 10 second v6, he asked to make it faster. im not tryin to start anything with you, but he didnt ask if it was a waste of money, or to buy a gt, he simply asked how to make it faster

Yeah, I spent way too much money for full bolt ons (except for gears), and h/c/i and I only put down the power of a stock GT. For the money, it was definitely not worth it. If i were to go back, I'd probably go the supercharger route with that kind of money.

Yeah I agree. If you have a 2007 v6 then definitely go with the intake, tune, and gears. That will probably net you the most gain out of the basic mods.

Yes, and he also is supercharged with a bit more done to his car With forced induction, the v6's can start to make some power. Without f/i, good luck!

I completely understand . But if your only choice is to mod a v6, my suggestion is what has been said before.

I'd much rather be driving/modding a gt though Trying to make a v6 fast sucks the money out of your wallet so quickly

Swap the V6 out for a pushrod. Might even be cheaper to do that, than blow your savings on thousands worth of parts to get 200 @ the wheels.

A cai and a tune( even a canned tune) will work wonders on your car( its not going to beat any gt"s). My car is an auto and you can really feel the diff. The next thing would be gears.

alright so it doesnt sound to good
i spoke to my mechanic and he said adding 410 gears would effect my gas mileage, so that was enough for me to turn down the idea.

    What cai do y'all recommend?

I still get 24MGG on the highway with full bolt ons+4.10 gears. Your mechanic is over exaggerating.

You will get better gas mileage in the city because ull tool around in 5th instead of 4th. on the highway ull only lose about 2mpg.. thats chump change.

Stay away from a CAI..its a waste of 200 bucks. Stick with geas/juice/supercharger.. thats gonna be your only worth while mods.

    Right about the 4.10 gears.

But your wrong about the CAI on S197's. He's not looking to run 12's in the car so CAI, gears, tune, and exhuast would give him what he wants.

I heard that a CAI on the new 4.0's really helps them quite a bit over that choke-tube they come with from the factory....get yourself some gears, and like Bandit said PROCHARGER FTW

If you are worried about gas mileage so much, get 3.73's instead of 4.10s. You won't notice a huge change in mileage if thats what you are worried about, especially in the city.

Also I've heard good things about the JLT cai, and get an SCT tuner with that (you need a tune if you are adding a CAI).
