first time at track... very disappointed
this was the first time I have ever raced my car at the track. This was also the first time I have launched my car after fixing the spark plug wires(car was missing before). I used to have an awd vr4 and am not used to traction issues.
since I got there too late I was only able to get 2 runs in first one: r/t: .606 60': 2.191(I bogged out of the whole.. dont see how this run was my best of the 2.. I dropped the clutch at 2k and it bogged) 1/8: 9.654@72.17mph 1/4: 15.178@88.62 I just couldnt get the launch down. After I left I did two launches on the street by slipping the clutch at around 3k and got a GREAT launch with minimal tire spin, but I didnt try slipping the clutch at the track. I just dumped the clutch, which either bogged the car or I spun my ass off. 2nd slip is in my car, but I remember the time: 2.8 60'(spinning through 1st and second and getting traction at the top of second) 15.5@90mph I practiced the launch twice, but I dont want to burn my clutch up. I think I got it down. I just need to practice more. Since I had the car I have only been racing from low rolls. I never tried to launch the car perfect, except after I left the track. Found out dumping the clutch doesnt work. lol Any pointers?? 1994 Mustang gt vert 5spd My mods: 373 gears msd ignition full mac exhaust(w/ high flow cats installed and egr deleted) tein lowering springs, upper/lower control arms, swap bars, camber plates falken street tires 90% tread bbk 70mm tb bbk 3.5" cai pro50 short throw shifter Next time I think I will take my spare out, my back seat out, and all my tools. And then practice my launching before I go. Since I beat an lt1 camaro from a 1st gear roll last night.. I was expecting low 14's.. I am kinda disappointed, but I know what killed my times is my 60' I still dont see how I bogged and still got a 2.1 60' any pointers?? |

did you say this was your first time at the track.......dont get discouraged.......with time and practice you should drop a second with the nods you have

I was also shifting at redline(6k).. after reading a few threads I should have been shifting around 5200... how much did that hurt my trap and et??.. I guess its hard to tell since I really didnt get a good run in.

What times should I be expecting with a 1.9 60' and shifting more in my powerband?? |

you should be in the low-mid 14's I would think.
I broke into the 14's with a bone stock 94 vert on drag radials. But I think I only managed a 2.0 60 ft. Its all about practice. You want to keep the RPMs up off the line but slip the clutch so you don't have a bunch of tire spin. And yes, shift at 5200 at the latest.

4800 to 5200 will be better. The secret is in the 60s.Work on getting it below a 2.0 on street tires.

yeah I didnt realize how bad my car spun until I tried launching it. It was my first time so I was nervous about running a shitty time and didnt even think about slipping the clutch. I used to own a vr4 in which I ran 1.7x 60' times while slipping the clutch. I tried a few practice launches on the street and damn was i made that I didnt try it at the track. I think I got it down pretty good. It is just like launching an awd car, but instead of bogging you have to feel for tire spin.
I was wondering where to shift before because it feels as if the car hits a brick wall on the topend getting close to redline. Maybe a 75 shot can help with that. I'll be going to the track in a week or two with more times. Hopefully I can pull some 2.0's and maybe 1.9's on street tires. And a low 14 ![]() |
