so, how close did they work with you on getting the proper fit (beyond just shoe size)? Were you happy with the service? Prices ok? HAWT chicks?

the lady watched me walk, had me bend my knees, looked at mt arches, etc. and she picked out what she thought would be best for me. it ended up being between a brand i'd never heard of(started with an m), and the new balances.

being my first time going to an actual running store, i can't compare it to anything, but i guess they did allright...

cool. i may pay them a visit in a month. Are you talking about Mizuno? I know they normally specialize in court shoes (like volleyball shoes).

yes! they were pretty comfortable, but i liked the new balances just a little bit better... they had a little morepadding on the sole.

i'm going to try them out tonight and see how they feel... hopefully my shin splints won't be to bad with the new shoes.

don't forget ya gotta break 'em in before doing any serious runs. the rule of thumb used to be: walk in them around town for a week before running in them.

shin splints suck! you gernally have to give the shin splints a week or 2 to heal

actually Mizuno is a baseball brand they started out making nothing other than baseball cleats
recently they branched out into running shoes (and mighty comfy ones too) and other stuff but its mostly just running

i don't know what you run on, but don't run on concrete. I ran on concrete for a couple days and it gave me shin splints, from then on I moved to the asphalt road and haven't had the problems again.

That's why I have knee problems now. It's best to find a good track or some trails. I mostly used New Balance when I was running. I really liked them.

i'm running on asphalt.

my shins were feeling better yesterday, but the shin splints are back in force this morning.

i've been trying to recover for almost three weeks now, but it's hard when i'm on my feet for 9 1/2 hours a day at work.

I used to tap my foot (leaving heal in place) - do it about 50 times each foot before you start. That used to help me out w/ shin splints.

i'm thinking about running on the side of the road along 3351... someone keeps the grass mowed(i don't know who or why?), but it will definately be softer than the road...

christine, i'll try that in a couple days when i try running again!
