Fog Light Woes

Alright people I have a problem with my poor fog lights ...

So the backstory to understand the problem now is that my 96' GT is a used one . I bought it and alot of stuff was missing or I don't know taken off such as the rear defrost button. I found out someone gutted the little box with the button and I replaced it a while ago. Now the biggest thing I've been trying to get is foglights. Mine were not there so I bought a stock pair. The wires that run form wherever to the back of the bulbs were there so I thought it would be no problem to just plug them in and drive .....

Wrong , nothing happened . So I checked the fog light relay and then replaced the fuse which was running a 10 instead of a 20amp rating in the fuse box. I check again and no dice. Finally I used one of those things that checks to see if power is even running through the wires . Apparently there was none ! So can anyone give me any advice ? The electric specialist couldnt or wouldnt give me an estimate for them to go into it although he emplied it would be very high. Do I need a switch to let the juice actually run through it ? Or is it something major to lend to the money grabbers ?

Thanks

..... crud ok one more question ! I have a couple of electrical wires running under my seats as well ! They're hooked into nothing and my seats are not power seats .... what do they go to ? Sorry I just have so much to learn :mick:

could be you have a bad fog light switch. Use your light tester on the wires coming into and out of the switch. If theres power going into the switch and no power going out then you know you have a bad switch.

Your on the right track by checking the fuse and relay. Now what you need to do is make sure the fuse and relay are getting power. If not you need to make sure the switch is working and it is getting power, which is your problem likely. I see bad foglight switches often on the SN's.

Hmm, one problem .... I don't think I have a switch

You're referring to the one that turns them on and off right ? There wasn't one in my car , but then again have the stuff is missing anyways .... If I were to buy one , where would a connection be located to hook it up ?

Sigh and apprently the GTs had "sport seats" with power whatever . Someone replaced mine with stock v-6 seats

Sorry not very familiar with the 96' gt,I have a 87' and 05' GT. I'm sure it has to have a seperate switch for the fog lights.

The switch should be right in front of the console armrest. Right next to a coin holder.

if you dont have a switch, you probably have a pill shaped coin holder. you need to pop that out, and you should have the factory fog light wired plug right there. the coin holder is replaced with the factory fog light switch.

Hmm sounds good. I have two coin holders ( ) so I guess tomorrow I'll lift up the console and take a look under there .

Edit :
Oh anyone know where abouts I would get another stock switch ?
