Foglights - bulb longevity
I don't know how many of are in Houston; but you know it sucks ass when the weather is sunny one day then boom stupid rainfall the next. I've found that I burn out my right fog light bulb quite often. Justin @ vmptuning suggested I ship the foglight assembly back for a warranty exchange; but I'm wondering if the bulb goes out because of ventilation, leaking, vibration, or even leaving the fogs on with the parking lamps (Viper alarm flashes both if left on for arm/disarm)
I've tried the 893 OE's and 893 ST's so far and the OE's lasted much longer 3 months vs. 1 month. However I also notice that my clear lens fogs tend to 'fog' up themselves, should I add some sort of cauc to the outside encasing before attempting to ship back, or is there a strongly possibility that water is seeping through the connectors of the bulb themselves in the back. Anyone else have some ideas? It's starting to really piss me the hell off.

Yeah but I'm wondering if it all can be solved with a simple silicon sealant vs. sending it back at cost of Fedex.

yes but if you tamper w/ it, they could try to blame it on you if it doesn't solve it... i'd say use the warranty.. 20 bucks is a lot less than who knows how much for new lights

silicone should do the job, you'll just have to find out where they are leaking from.
silicone comes in clear and will peel off the plastic, if that doesn't work. Plus if it is around the bulb, then you can remove the silicone sealant and put new with the new bulbs.

yea i guess that would be a cheaper alternative as long as it would be un noticeable if he did have to send them in... what you could do, take the fog light out, and put an old bulb in it, and submerse it half way (just the housing but make sure the lense seal isn't submersed) and then the other way around so you could see which part is leaking...

could just run a thin layer around the seam of the two parts, spread it flat, pressing it into the seam.

In my experience on these lights as well as my own, I have found that water enters from the top section to where the bulb sits inside the housing. The factory 35 watts really suck, I stepped up to 55 watt bulb and the heat alone causes the top plastic to hairline. I removed the whole housing, applied some black silicone and have never had to replace a bulb again. It always seemed to go out with a rain or hitting a puddle. HTH

Yeah, I finally took it to a mech shop just to look at it, water entered the back of the plugs and it starting corroding the wire. WD-40'd it cleaned it up, and then put black silicon at the back.
